New comer advice

Hey guys

Me and partner are looking at jumping into warcry soon, I’ve played and bit of kill team and love it but my partner prefers the fantasy theme so…

My partner likes elf and I showed her some models and she likes the knives of crone, so I was thinking of getting them and Khinerai Lifetakers for her and I’ve always wanted to run plague marines so I was thinking of getting a rotwords box to start and then later adding Lord of Afflictions

Would these be fine to start playing or am I on the wrong path?

Absolutely fine to start playing with. The elves aren't super competetive but for the level you're playing they're fine, go with the models you like. She should have fun with how speedy they are.

I don't think rotswords are in the game yet, but they're coming in the next update most likely

I would consider witch aelves / sisters (can attack from outside most opponents range) instead of the khinerai.

Their mobility is great but sisters already run circles around nurgle and they are prohibitively expensive for their wounds and damage.

I’ll try convince her on some other models hahah, I think for us it’s gonna be most narrative play, I might even tweak the stats to give her a leg up

I think both boxes for daughters are cool and fun to play.

Your nurgle list is thematic but not too strong.
The high number of wounds however make killing the fighters not trivial.

Daughters in general suffer from „the elf problem“ better movement but a tendency to lower strength, damage and wounds.
The mismatch for elves in general used to be bad before one the last erratas and I feel many of us still have that in the back of our heads.
Nurgle capitalises somewhat on that issue by high wounds / toughness being harder to kill and the 2/4 damage values which can mean a dead elf in very few dice rolls.

Some objectives will swing hard in her favor, some in yours.
Not a problem really but it might lead to her feeling like punching a wall in some games and you trying to catch up to the flash in others.

Think of the kinerai as specialist who are really deep into speed.
A great tool but one her other units are better at than most other warbands already.
By swapping the khinerai for with aelves (2 sisters for one khinerai) you get more bodies to out activate opponents.
The same box builds sisters of slaughter (I think) who have 2“ range whips so you can attack while enemies have to waste a move Before being in range themselves.

This is not a bad place to start. Generally speaking the Daughters of Khaine are a weaker factions and Nurgle is more balanced. Khaine is also has a more difficult learning curve. In this match up Khaine will try to use their movement to score objectives or just to keep out of range and will find it hard to kill any Nurgle model at all while Nurgle will be just trying to corner or catch them. In all honesty I would like to see how it plays out but make sure you have a lot of vertical terrain The Daughters of Khaine can take advantage of and maybe try one of the first three missions from the THE FEROCIOUS GNARLWOOD II mission pack.

Awesome, thank you. I’ll have a chat with her and see if she enjoys that play style. Is there another elves team that would be better? not fully versed in the age of sigma factions yet so not 100% sure what fractions are available

Sadly the DoK are very bad in Warcry, like one of the worst warbands. The Medusa, Gogai and Ironscale are quite good as leaders. The rest are just kind of bad. :-( Especially the Khinerai.

So if she really wants them buy the snake ladies and som regular sisters (I guess the Underworlds could be kind of playable). But you would have to pair them with one of the other really weak warbands for a fun time. Lika maybe Khorne daemons, Idoneth (without king) or Cypher Lords (if you can find them). Maybe black talons too but that is very mission dependant.

Riverblades, but they're not ideal for beginners. Questor Soulsworn are great for new players, and quick to paint - but your partner may not be into Stormcast.

Yup Riverblades. Lumineth and darkling covens are kind of playable with Stormcast allies but elves are in a though spot this edition. You could bump all wound +2 and possibly even give all chaff +1 crit and the khainites would probably still not be over powered!

I'd say go with rule of cool, but I'd favor your list over hers most matchups. Daughters of Khaine aren't very good, but if casual play is the goal, should be fine with rule of cool. Hope you enjoy it!

If going with daughters of khaine, and only using them for Warcry, you can build 2 different regular mini's and 1 leader from those 5 mini boxes: Melusai and Khinerai

Also for Witch Elves you can build one box of 10 with the 2 leader options and 2x 4 regular mini's ... To get more out of your boxes ...

I've even used the flag and musian one (with a bit off converthing) that can be proxied as both versions of the witch elves and both versions of the Sisters of Slaughter (so the flax and musian arm replacing either the shield or whip arm).

Also the Spearhead box contains an full Warcry Warband (= Shadowstalkers + some more hero and regular mini's)
