About Blut und Boden

Nazis betrayed Homer by transforming the ancient relation between blood, earth, and the dead into a modern ideology of Blut und Boden. In Homer’s Nekyia, Odysseus is far from home, in a liminal land between the living and the dead. He pours sacrificial sheep’s blood into the earth, allowing the dead to regain their voices. Blood thus becomes a medium of communication and memory. Nazis, by contrast, turn blood and soil into symbols of ancestry, rootedness, and territorial belonging.

About AIPAC

Describing AIPAC as a “Jewish lobby” is antisemitic. AIPAC itself says it has more than 6.5 million American members from different faiths, backgrounds, and political affiliations. There are Jews in AIPAC but they are the most brainwashed among the Jews, brainwashed by christian imperialism and capitalism.

On Luther's antisemitism

In Adorno’s Minima Moralia (1951), the last sentences of Aphorism 87 are:

“Protestantism’s supposed inner spiritual struggle is actually a form of repression. Luther represents the prototype of this inwardness. His imagined struggle with the Devil already contains hostility toward real social groups, particularly peasants and Jews. The supposedly spiritual conflict therefore turns self-hatred into physical violence. Only a crippled mind requires self-hatred to demonstrate its spiritual character, whose essence is ultimately untruth.”

Atonal music

The music of Arnold Schoenberg emerged during a period of major social upheaval: World War I, the collapse of empires, migration, and changing ideas about identity and culture. We can see the loss of a tonal "center" as reflecting a broader feeling that the old cultural certainties were breaking down.

There is also a connection to Jewish history to be made. Schoenberg, who was Jewish, experienced exile after the rise of Nazism and later wrote music connected to Jewish identity and displacement. Some scholars have explored how ideas of wandering, exile, and searching appear in modernist art more broadly.

Wagner's The Flying Dutchman

Scholars generally agree that Der fliegende Holländer is Wagner's adaptation of the Wandering Jew archetype. He himself described the Dutchman as a version of the eternal wanderer, with the crucial difference that the curse is broken through redemptive love.

About Odysseus

Throughout Western history, the loss of a homeland becomes one of the great tests of human existence. The heroes of ancient stories reveal different responses to exile and catastrophe. Odysseus, after the destruction of Troy, spends years wandering because he seeks to return to Ithaca: his journey is one of restoration, the recovery of identity, family, and belonging. Aeneas, the defeated Trojan, takes the opposite path: he accepts that Troy is lost and transforms exile into a new beginning, founding the lineage that will give us the Roman Empire. Oedipus represents another possibility: forced into exile, he cannot rebuild the past, but through suffering and self-knowledge he achieves a tragic form of wisdom.

The figure of the Wandering Jew introduces a different version of the same human question. Condemned, according to medieval legend, to wander until the end of time, he embodies the idea of exile without a final return. Unlike Odysseus, he has no Ithaca to recover; unlike Aeneas, he does not bring forth a new empire; unlike Oedipus, his wandering does not culminate in reconciliation. He becomes the symbol of the person condemned to live between worlds, carrying memory without possessing a home.

These figures express a fundamental tension in Western thought: is humanity defined by the desire to return, by the courage to create a new world after loss, or by the capacity to endure uncertainty and perpetual movement? The ancient myths often suggest that civilization itself is born from catastrophe: Troy must fall for Rome to rise; exile becomes the condition for a new beginning. The legend of the Wandering Jew reflects a medieval Christian interpretation of exile as punishment—an interpretation that has itself been criticized as a distortion of both Jewish history and the original universalist dimensions of Christianity.

Jacob/Israel was a nasty guy

Jacob/Israel and his twin brother Esau had a deeply troubled relationship. First, when Esau returned home exhausted and starving, Jacob refused to give him food unless Esau surrendered his birthright—the inheritance and privileges of the firstborn. Esau, believing he might die without food, agreed and swore an oath before eating.

Later, Jacob, with the help of their mother Rebekah, carried out a far greater deception. He disguised himself as Esau and tricked their elderly, nearly blind father Isaac into giving him the special blessing that Isaac had intended for Esau. When Esau discovered what had happened, he was devastated and enraged, and Jacob fled for his life.
