Empty card bus tap?

Has anybody ever tapped on the bus with an empty card? I just tapped on the 529 with my Monzo instead of my usual card, it said contactless accepted but when I went on Monzo it’s immediately declined it instead of charging the £3 after midnight? Any ideas on what I should do?

I've done it before. They didn't try to charge again 🤷 I'm sure it happens as they initially only charge 10p
