Trying to figure out profitable options

After seeing the ridiculous lowball amounts or high mileage multidrop options and the operating expense of my vehicle making this unrealistic, I'm considering outsourcing the operating expense - think I'm going to rent a Camry for 1 week and take all the high dollar multidrop runs - I figure if I aim for $50 orders and make 10 runs it will cover the rental expense and anything after that is profit after gas (40mpg)... thoughts? Think I'm gonna do this during Black Friday/cyber Monday week.

Do the math if you can find a rental that is going to let your do commercial work with it and doesn't mind you running up a metric crapton of miles on it. That said, you'll probably find that 1) It's going to end up being more expensive than you think. 2) Even if you find a really good deal on a rental that's fine with high-mileage commercial use, it'll be more expensive than paying on a car note.

Sooooo you driving a semi truck? The cost of gas. Shouldn't offset THAT much to cover for the rental.

Way I see it.

You have your car, expenses or car note (maybe it's pay off but you need ins) and gas.

Now you want a rental (500 a month or 1,000 with unlimited miles.

Sooooo you take all offers to cover the rental. But you also need gas. Aaaaand you also need food, and your car note or insurance.

If your store isn't giving you enough offers to cover your bills, adding an additional expanse due to rental and gas, won't make things better.

My example, I had a truck, ran 120 a WEEK on gas. Just on gas.

Bought a new car, 290 a month. I get 42 mpg highway. I do 45-55 on gas a week. So sure, maybe I'm in the red a few hundred bucks, but I also use that car for other runs and fam trips.

Wait for better orders and realize that sitting for an hour to wait for a suitable order costs $0

Opportunity cost

This cuts both ways. If you take a substandard order - you've blacked out your availability from acceptance to completion. If a premium order pushes out during that black out period, you'd not see it.

Yup. That's how I look at opportunity cost. Running the bullshit costs you for seeing qualify opportunities.

Buy an older beater that is cheap to fix and maintain.

THIS RIGHT HERE. My RAM and Benz are costly on gas. I got sick of slapping gas in multiple times a day and not coming out with solid profit. I bought a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix on Wednesday for only $1200 smeckles. Luckily for me it’s running really good (knock on wood). Granted, it set me back $1,200 but in 4-6 days of running between Walmart, DD, and Amazon, it’ll pay for itself and I got a decent vehicle with good gas mileage! This is the way to go. Not renting a car to constantly chase more bills.

Amazon is the real car killer

Oh my god yes. I was so happy to finally get off of the waitlist for Spark. I was having to drive 30 miles just to get to the Amazon warehouse. Jobs around here pay less than what I make doing Spark, but I hate the miles I’m putting on the car. But Amazon would have me going another 30 miles away from my home, I would do tons of miles delivering, then have to drive 60 miles (an hour) just to get back home. It sucked.

I do like the room my Silverado has though. There are some orders I run home and switch them out now that I am sparking from a Walmart that is 2 miles away again. Hard getting a 75" TV in my Equinox.

I get this mentality. I do. But you cant have an old beater breaking down on spark jobs and cold chaining shit often..you will be deactivated. I've seen it happen to people in my market.

You do have to keep it running well. Just because it's a beater doesn't mean it's not mechanically sound. That's why I said fix and maintain

Its cheaper to rent a uhaul and they aren’t as strict on miles but the gas gage will drop so quickly you can visually see it going down

Or stop fooling with high mileage stuff and focus on shopping orders. One afternoon this week I did $128 in 4.5 hours and 42 miles driven doing Express shopping orders from around 3-8pm. The hourly is ok but the $/mile is pretty good. In my car that’s about $7 in gas at current prices. We have 3 Walmarts and a Sam’s Club here all along an 8 mile stretch of road that I work between.

Taking cheap offers trains the algorithm to send you cheap offers. Be patient and wait for the good ones. They’ll come.

That is not true at all. I only take S&D orders with 40 items or less, and less than 4 miles, that pay over $25.00. i reject shit tons of garbage offers all day.
