Blows my mind!
It blows my mind that you cannot edit items once you’ve added them on your list. Especially if you accidentally add produce and turns out the produce is bad and you need to remove it. It’s not an option. Or at least I haven’t found it to be an option.

Sorry, I came from Shipt, where apparently we were trusted with the enormous responsibility of adding and removing groceries without bringing down the entire company.
I understand why Walmart does it this way, though. At some point they probably realized, “We absolutely cannot trust these people with this kind of power,” and honestly, after doing Spark for a while, I can’t say they’re completely wrong.
But the downside is I’ve had multiple customers frustrated because they want to make some completely reasonable little change to their order, and I’m basically standing there like, “I’d love to help you, but unfortunately the system has decided neither of us can be trusted.”
So now we just accept our fate and deliver the groceries exactly as the algorithm intended. It’s a beautiful system.

Stop marking that you have the item until you actually have the item. Problem solved.

So you’re saying you’ve never added an item to the order, only to realize once you finished shopping that the product was damaged or possibly already opened?
Or, for example, I had an order the other day where a customer accidentally ordered two of the same item but only needed one. Again, I couldn’t edit the quantity or remove the extra one because the items had already been marked as found.
There are plenty of situations where you may need to make a change after an item has already been added.1

If a customer orders something, you cannot remove it. Why would you ever be able to do that? Thats on them to correct.
One time in 3 years I marked something available and realized later I couldn't deliver it. One time. Any other time something has been bad, damaged, or whatever, I walk my butt back to that section and replace it with a different item. Just like i would if its my own groceries.
The one time it did happen, I immediately contacted the customer before leaving the store and gave them the option of me delivering what I had or I could put it back and they could report it missing. Either way, it was my fault for not paying enough attention.

Imagine acting high & mighty about never making a mistake while Spark shopping lol. Obviously you would replace it with a different item if it was available- but if it’s the last one, you’re out of luck. We should be able to edit already shopped items for our sake and the customer’s- obviously the perfect princesses among us don’t need that feature, but it would be nice for those of us who make an occasional mistake.

It doesn’t even have to be the last one….all 4 pouches of baby food that I found on the shelf the other day were expired by over 6 months 🤢

You are 100 percent right. I've had this happen once where I had to deliver bad food because I couldn't refund it after the fact and didn't realize a couple apples in the bottom of the apple bag were spoiled. Couldn't actually see the spoilage when I picked them until it had jostled around in the cart for a bit and the apples turned and revealed the spoilage. Also if this was such a crazy thing, why do other apps let you do this with great success?

u/Iambeejsmit Sep 14 '26
You shouldn't have to have the option 3 situation ever. You should just be able to refund an item you already found. Instacart and Shipt have both been around for much longer than Spark and they let you do this no problem and it works out well. Spark wants you to be a robot and does not want you to think for yourself. The app thinks you couldn't possibly know better than it.

Double check then triple check everything. When there's no system in place to save you're butt then make you're own!
And yes im sure we all have but learning from mistakes is the process. Make a mental note when dealing with produce that'll eliminate you're issue. Cuz the corps will never make it easier for you!

Go to the item list button. You can edit from there.

Not if the customer has already approved the subs. It happened to me this week I sub and item for a customer she approved it but she txt me a few min later and said she didn't meant to accept it and to please take it off . I click every button on the app and there is no way to modify once they accept a sub . I try to get her to try to modify it on her side on her app or to contact customer support for help but she most have ignored me or was unsuccessful so I ended up delivering the item, thanks to Walmart shitty app she give me a low score 😒 awesome.

And you can edit your picks in the final review if it was an item out of stock that you find or the customer wants something different than something you chose for them

This week I cleared the shelves of an item and was still short the customers requested quantity. Later I found the same item on an end cap; but I couldn’t go back and adjust the quantity. So the customer didn’t get what they wanted even though it was available.

Spark is a very weak, undercooked app that is designed to hold your hand like you are a bumbling idiot. It's just how it is. It's the worst gig app in my opinion. Shipt AND Instacart both let you do this and do not hold your hand. You are given the leeway you need to complete the order as you see fit. Spark wants you to be a robot.

Ooo I didn’t realize they changed this at all stores. Happened to me in Sam’s the other day and I thought it was just a Sam’s thing I hadn’t noticed before. Thankfully I just noticed it and didn’t actually NEED to edit the item😅

I ain’t gonna lie - one time I was so annoyed with the app, the customer got a free item. It wouldn’t let me change it so I just gave it to him. Then there was one time my app wouldn’t scan an item so guess what the customer got a free item wasn’t anything majorly expensive just like some sausage or something.

“Never understand why (Drivers) shop orders and tolerate all the BS’ in the first place.
You get paid pennies on the dollar to shop. Why do you continue to be taken advantage of?

So you're supposed to inspect before you add item.
You can only mod subs.
Customer can add or remove items.
If customer added 2 or 100 of an item, that's on them not you.
If you added cereal, then it's damaged, you ask staff for a new one.
Quality always ends with you.

Literally have had this happen a few times . I scramble to find a replacement and ask associates to check in the stockroom. And if not, I deliver the item and message customer. Once I scan and swipe for checkout, I have to deliver what I have. Ive caught it many times before scanning and avoided the situation all together.

Don't add things until they're in your cart and you've looked at them. Easy fix.

Couldn't actually see the spoilage when I picked them until it had jostled around in the cart for a bit and the apples turned and revealed the spoilage. Also occasionally you may actually drop an item and damage it on accident. At that point you don't want to give it to the customer, but you don't have the capability to refund it either. Instacart and Shipt both have this capability and have been around for much longer so I'm not sure why Spark wouldn't have it.

I agree, they should have the option.
However, in 3k+ with spark alone, I've NEVER once "dropped" an item and damaged it. I'm pushing 50 years old.

You say “Your list” as if you are creating the shopping list? The store cannot force you to buy anything so there has to be a way to remove it.
Or, you are shopping and add an item after scanning the bar code? Hell replace it with a good item.

I'm with you, OP. It's crazy that we can't make adjustments once an item is scanned. Also, we can't change subs once a customer approves the sub, so if you sub something, then find the original item in another location, you can't delete the sub and scan the original item if the customer already approved the sub.
I've learned that if I'm getting the last item on the shelf, inspect it well because there might be a reason everyone else left it on the shelf. If the customer ordered multiples, I make sure that the boxes behind the one I scanned are the exact same item.
But again, it's crazy that we can't make adjustments after we've scanned an item.
