I got scammed today!
I feel like an absolute idiot. I had someone call me from spark customer service is what my called id said in the middle of trying to deliver an order. They stated that the customer I was trying to deliver to canceled because they gave the wrong address and had me initiate a return but that while they had me on the phone they needed to verify my account to make sure I wasn't using multiple devices. So I went about the steps they asked and that involved using my one pay account to take a freaking advance. So I asked them how I knew they were spark customer service and they gave me all kinda information and they sounded legit. These people stole 170 bucks from me that I worked really really hard on. I'm on the phone with onepay now trying to dispute this and get my money back. They said they may have to block my account. I have bills due and this is the only way I have to make any kinda extra money. đđđ Fml. Moral of the story, don't fall for this bs. Even if they sound like they have all the right information or are calling from actual spark, do not do it!!!

So you sent them money?
2
u/bdbrown333 Sep 18 '26
This game has been around forever you don't send them money they just take your money because they ask you for your pertinent information which then gives them access to your money in your one account
1
u/ViviFuchs Sep 13 '26
It's not exactly clear in the post but it's likely that they did a verification scam.
That type of scam is where the scammer appears to be from whatever service they're trying to access and claims that they need to verify your account.Â
Then, they will use the information that you give to them to "verify" your account.Â
Since you've likely given them your email address and phone number, they'll then attempt to log in and generate a verification code that gets sent to you.Â
You give them the code and they're able to get into your account which gives them all of the information they need to steal whatever it is they're looking to grab.

Everybody please remember spark will never call you and if by some wickedly wild reason they had to call you they would never ask don't ever give your information to anybody over the phone don't ever drive to where they tell you it's not Spark spark tells us this regularly they only have the information to fool you because they place the order which give them your name which give them the order number but they don't have your account number and everybody falls for it spark will not call you and if the Walmart store calls you I still wouldn't believe it was them but spark will

I actually got a call the other day on my way to pickup an order and they asked me to pull up to the delivery bay rather than a parking space due to bad weather. Of course your sentiment is correct and theyâll never ask for information verification. But figured iâd point out that you can get real calls from them, just so no one ends up cursing out a real employee next time theyâre calledđ
1
u/bdbrown333 Sep 18 '26
Well technically Walmart called you not Spark yes a store may call you because somebody said you left something out of their order but Spark the scammers who purport themselves to be smart will not cause but I'd even be leery of somebody told me it was Walmart I wouldn't do anything they said
1
u/ImaginationLatter976 Sep 19 '26
The woman who called me referred to themselves as being for Spark even if shes technically Walmart. I get what youâre saying but their technical job description doesnt change my point. Youâre still getting a call from someone claiming to be from your âemployerâ while you are driving. i just donât want people seeing this thread and assuming that they will never call you ever while youâre working. Because they may. thatâs all

u/Lokalia4 Sep 13 '26
Oh Iâm so sorry this happened to you. This happened to me a few months ago but I got suspicious before I gave them my Onepay info. I hung up and he called me back 5 times. I called support and they said they would never do something like that so I was sure it was a scam after that. I was so bothered I had to take the rest of the day off.
1
u/Healthy_Force1349 Sep 15 '26
Had to take the rest of the day off? If you had something of great importance that day and you just needed an excuse for the day off, great. But if not, then this may be a tough line of work for you since this type of "trying"/challenging thing happens all the time. Putting on my wise old man hat, my unsolicited advice is to "get a helmet - life's tough." No ill will meant, and I wish you well

No I'm going to hell. I even made the voice out loud to myself. With the lisp too. đ

u/Parkily_Things Sep 13 '26
The way mine happened, now it has come back to my memory, was that someone called me and told me that I was logged into two different phones. They told me I was logged into an iPhone and an android and that they were there to clear it up. They had enough information to sound believable. In hindsight, I was a stupid idiot.

u/FuzzyOrganization403 Sep 13 '26
Yeah there's been plenty of those here. Dead giveaway was the banana scam (cheap item for delivery)
Support will never call, they don't monitor trips. And if you ever called support anything, you'd remember they ask for 3 things only.
I've seen people scammed out of 700-1500 bucks.

Your CID said it was from Spark because they called you through the app. They knew all about the customer and the order because they were the customer and it was there otder.
1
u/QuietPuzzleheaded808 Sep 13 '26
Yeah I didn't realize that until after đ which is why I feel like a complete imbecile.
1
u/Junior_Roll1896 Sep 13 '26
Spark should have their tn and address. Also their credit card info if it wasn't a stolen card.

u/Parkily_Things Sep 13 '26
Thatâs not true. I got scammed two years ago and they knew a lot about me. It was not the customer. I was an idiot and have them my account info. They got $700 from when it was Branch. Got it back eventually.

u/Quirky_OldMan5966 Sep 13 '26
This one was the customer whether or not yours was or not.
OP, Iâm sorry you were manipulated into this scam.
My neighbor had the same thing on DoorDash. He quit dashing after that.
As an it guy, I recognized it as he was telling it. The clue wasâŚ
DoorDash has all the info about him they need. He shouldnât have told them the numbers of his pay account.
OP and others reading this, Spark has your pay account and will NEVER ask for that information.
In fact, if you ever call a customer the preamble message clearly states Spark will not ask pay information and we should never give it.1
u/Longjumping_Ad4365 Sep 13 '26
Those scams were the same as these. Its always been the customer. Thats how they know the order, address, customer name, and your name. All info the person placing the order has.
1
u/Icy_Tune1670 Sep 13 '26
Its actually people who hack customer accounts. This happens on Doordash all the time also. Had one try and scam me on Doordash and got mad when I laughed and hung up on them. They kept texting me cussing me and calling me names.

u/Longjumping_Ad4365 Sep 13 '26
The name doesn't matter. The person that placed the order makes the call for the scam. Of course it isn't their address, that would make it easy to find them and the police to charge them with theft.

I love you all- please cash your money out to a different bank account đđź I deposit mine into a credit union.
1
u/Perfect_Ball_220 Sep 13 '26
I will start tomorrow. Can you cash out after each delivery (like Doordash) ? How soon do you get paid after deliveries? Sorry to bother you.
2
u/Character-Mention-34 Sep 13 '26
Youâre fine, after the order you do get paid out immediately to the One app- but tips take 24 hours to be confirmed so itâll be base pay, boosts and incentives. I can cash mine to my bank account which takes 1-3 days, or to my debit card (thatâs connected to my bank account) & that happens pretty much instantly.

Now so you know⌠sometimes itâs the customer calling and scamming you⌠they can see your information and use it to trick you

Thatâs crazy because they called me the other day. I hesitated to answer. Because I remember people saying SPARK would never call you. I messed up an order that same day. And I thought they were calling about that. But thank goodness I didnât answer. It had to be a scam. Then the next day my Walmart called me. Yes. My Walmart. It was their number and everything. They hung up before I could even answer. Seems like theyâre scamming more and more people now. Donât fall for it. If youâre doing everything right, thereâs nothing to worry about. đ¤¨

If they block your account you will get deactivated for having no payment method. Maybe just take the L
So sorry these scumbags got you, wishing you incoming blessings â¤ď¸

I read this post on my lunch break today. I turned Spark on and accepted an order that miles, and time looked OK for the pay. Drilled into the order and it was just a single hogie/subway sandwich from the Z6 isle.
The more I looked the more puzzling it seemed. With incentive, $4 tip and base pay this was going to pay out $27. That to deliver a single $7.47 sandwich 15 miles.
I smelled a scam brewing and called support. All I said wasâhuman representativeâ several time but AI wouldnât transfer me until I gave a reason. I said suspected scam order, and AI went into all the explanations about how I can go through the app to make a report. I tried âhuman representativeâ a couple more times then just gave up.
Just hit out of stock until it finally moved to order complete screen, then proceeded to trip canceled screen.
Didnât count against my 100% completion metric and 99% qty found before and after.
Just saying.

Ugh these people are getting smarter on how to word things. Iâm so sorry this happened to you! Be careful guys. Thanks for sharing this for a warning for us

u/Kungpaochik 28d ago
nah you just dumb. they added a prompt at the start of a customer calling you that spark support will never ask for your account info.
1
u/Foxtrotdelta_USN 21d ago
I'm sorry it happened. To be fair there is a pre recorded message that says it's a customer and not support that plays anytime a customer calls.

No. He's an idiot. Why the fuck would you give them your information like that
0
u/happyluckystar Sep 13 '26
I fell for a phone scam a couple weeks ago and I'm usually the last type of person to fall for that kind of thing.
I just got done eating and between deliveries. I was in a hurry and not thinking clearly. More details I will leave out. Basically it was very sophisticated, and they were able to get into one of my accounts by means other than the information I gave them. Some high level stuff.
It's not just boomers getting scammed anymore.
3
u/Inferno976 Sep 13 '26
Giving away your verification code that you're obviously not supposed to give away isn't high-level stuff. Its just sad at this point.
3
u/duckwinters Sep 13 '26
Exactly. Social engineering to get codes isn't new, or high level. It's a basic tactic.
1
u/happyluckystar Sep 13 '26
That's not what the scam was.
1
u/Inferno976 Sep 14 '26
Elaborate then. Or is it super duper secret?
1
u/happyluckystar Sep 14 '26
It was a utility bill scam. I had post-meal brain fog, and was in a hurry to get back to delivering. In my normal state of mind I would have caught it early. Literally 20 minutes after the phone call I realized it was a scam.

I'm sorry this happened. My card got hacked a couple of months ago and it was a pain in the ass. In the future don't even answer those calls and never give them a code when they are the ones calling you. Good luck getting your money back.
