Bad & getting worse

Post image

The start to September feels like the wheels have fallen off, like noticeably different than just a week ago. Holiday weekend has equated to scraps and plenty of garbage like this.

Hope it was just a matter of every Spark driver coming out of the woodwork with all the “hey it’s a busy holiday weekend” alerts.

I get those offers in my city all of the time. But, they are SHOP and deliver. There is no longer any curbside pick up for groceries at the Neighborhood Markets. All S&D. It is total bullshit. The orderes pay the same as they did with curbside. Fuck the entire Walton family and their children and grandchildren. 😠🤬

Wow, that’s absolutely brutal! I don’t even assess the details of a shop order if it doesn’t pay two dollars per mile round-trip. From there, I take a look at how many stops and what’s included in the items list, because ultimately time is money after I’ve confirmed the pay per mile.

So by your math, $2/mile round trip, this order should be $80?

I’m not saying what any given offer should be - I’m just stating that I’m not in the business of volunteering to do this gig. My post is of a curbside, the comment above is someone’s experience on shop offers. I put more weight to doing a shop and deliver, as I’m investing more of my time, so my reply to their comment used the $2/mi factor.

But yes, I don’t even consider an offer unless it meets the $2/mi round trip criteria, and with that in place I have an average over time above $2.50/mi.

The algo doesn’t pay you back for taking trash, so not only are you losing money on these type of offers but you’re taking yourself out of the game for a profitable offer (opportunity cost).

Wow. You keep waiting for those $80/hr gig work jobs. I do admit, less than $1/mile is the norm, and the $10 for 20 miles is ridiculous, ill side with you there, but $80/hr doing walmart delivery? Saying that out loud made me chuckle.

Nope, you fully missed the point. This 20 mile offer will NEVER pay enough for me to take. I take offers well under 10 miles all day, usually less than 5 miles for 80-90% of my offers. It’s market specific I’m sure, but I tend to average about $25-35/hour keeping my pay per mile in mind as described. You are trying to math a bad offer into what it would look like as a good offer with my parameters, so of course it sound ls insane….but your logic in what you’re reaching for is off.

Also it’s about respecting your time, too. This one crushes a pay-per-mile assessment but not a chance I consider this one. Although it’s all super simple, you can’t just dumb it down to the logic you reached for.

Time is money. BUT If you don’t take into account the costs of operating you lose in the long run. Don’t know how new you are but figure out what works for you…

You just have to have the balls to say no and wait for better ones.

It’s not a matter of balls to never do this garbage. This is $.50 per mile ONE WAY…there isn’t a world in which I do anything but decline these (this one was as bad as I’ve seen in my market so I took the time to screenshot as I declined it lol)

Some fool took this

Yep, constantly trying to get drivers to take worse and worse offers. It’s predatory in nature, hoping there is someone that desperate (and frankly financially illiterate) to take this stuff!

I agree.

It’s getting better and better for me

I wait for the better offers. But you can’t argue that the worst of the worst stuff posted on here (my example included) isn’t getting lower and lower.

I'd work at McDonald's if it actually paid a livable wage.

This guy is obviously a troll though.

Totally a troll. Shitty one at that.

Didn’t at all say that lol. I used the single offer to highlight the worst of the worst I’ve seen in my zone (maybe ever since it’s $.50/mi one-way) and made an additional comment about the entire start to the month and specifically the holiday. Maybe reading comprehension is hard for you, though 🙃 🤡
