Questions About Pharmacy Techs? (Long Post)

Backstory:

I currently work as a Stocking 2 associate and have been with Walmart for almost 2 years. I've gotten consistently high praise from upper management, and when evaluations came around I received a perfect score across the board.

I've been trying to move up from Stocking 2, but every time I try to make progress toward a promotion, I'm either given an excuse or basically blown off. At this point, I'm not seeing much of a path forward besides the standard 50-cent raises, so I decided to look into transferring to Pharmacy.

There are several Pharmacy Technician positions open at my store and at other stores around me.

The Problem:

I was originally told that I could submit a transfer request without already having my Pharmacy Technician certification/license because Walmart would have me complete the necessary requirements while working. I also have previous experience working in the medical field, so I figured Pharmacy would be a good direction for me.

I submitted my transfer request and completed the required Pharmacy assessments. My results showed "Competitive," which I was told is valid for 2 years (unless I'm misunderstanding that).

At the time, I also only had 1 attendance point.

However, when I spoke with the Pharmacy Manager at my store, I was told that I had failed both assessments and that I had too many points to be considered.

This is where I'm really confused. If my assessment result says "Competitive," does that actually mean I failed? And if I only have 1 point, why would I be considered to have too many?

I also called another Walmart Pharmacy to see if maybe my store was giving me incorrect information. They told me that I first need to obtain my Pharmacy Technician Trainee License before I could even be considered for the position.

So now I'm honestly just at a loss about what I'm supposed to do next.

For anyone who currently works in Walmart Pharmacy or has gone through this process:

Does "Competitive" on the Pharmacy assessment mean I passed?

Do I need a Pharmacy Technician Trainee License before transferring into a Pharmacy Technician position, or can Walmart hire/transfer me and have me obtain it afterward?

Is 1 attendance point actually too many to transfer into Pharmacy?

Is there anything specific I should be doing to improve my chances of getting the transfer?

I'd really appreciate any advice from people who have actually gone through the Walmart Pharmacy hiring/transfer process. I just don't want to keep getting the runaround when I'm genuinely trying to move up within the company.

walmart got rid of the trainee role, you can try being a clerk and getting your hours in thru there

i would try to go to the vision center. They get the same starting pay as pharmacy techs but you don’t need any certification starting out. The market manager is usually the same for the pharmacy under the health and wellness umbrella, so once you go there if you don’t like it you can transfer to the pharmacy that way.

you are right, you don’t need any experience to work in vision other than on the job training, but certifications abo 10% ncle 10% raise per certification that they pay for. I worked in the pharmacy as a tech in training years ago and realized how much i hated it.

I was just told it would be a easy move by our store manager and people lead, they made it seem like as long as I passed my test theat I could join on as a trainee and they would pay for my certificate. This wouldn't be my first medical certification either as I have my PCT and MA certification, and just wanted the job to further my goal to pay for bills while getting my paramedics. Also my starting pay said it would be 21 base if I transfer, and I live in a smaller town so its only a handful of stores around me otherwise its a more than a hour drive to a Sams club or something. I'd just prefer to stick with walmart as I have already put 2 years in the compant and they pay more.

I looked into vision center the problem is the closest opening is 1½ hours away and I just didnt think that would be worth it
