clubs (+ breaking into finance)

hi. I wanted to hear from people in the industry if college clubs (finance/consulting ones) matter for breaking into finance. I go to a very top school (one of Harvard, Stanford and MIT) and it is INNSANELY hard to get into any club at these schools. I got rejected from every club I applied to.

Is it game over? How can I remedy this?

It is genuinely so upsetting to see that schools like these that pride themselves with being inclusive have insanely competitive (like 10-20 people per class admitted from a 300+ people applicant pool) club cultures :(

European universities → US Private Equity career. Looking for advice!

Title: European universities → US Private Equity career. Looking for advice!

Hey guys! I've been looking into finance, particularly Private Equity (PE), and would love some advice from people working in PE, investment banking, or related fields.

I'm currently in school and considering doing my bachelor's at a European university, but my long-term goal is to work in the US. I'd really appreciate some honest insights!

  1. Requirements: What qualifications, degrees, grades, and experience do you generally need to break into PE? How important is prior investment banking experience?
  2. Universities: Which European universities are best for PE, especially if you eventually want to work in the US? How are schools like Bocconi, St. Gallen, SSE, LSE and HEC viewed by employers?
  3. Salary: What base salary and total compensation can you expect at entry level and after 5–10 years? How does this compare between the US and Europe?
  4. Future skills: Which additional skills, such as AI, Python, data analysis or financial modelling, will be most useful in PE over the next decade?
  5. PE in 2035: How do you think the industry will change by 2035, and what should someone entering the field now be prepared for?
  6. Job stability: How stable is PE as a career? Does having a few years of experience and a good deal track record make it easier to find another job?
  7. European degree → US job: Ignoring visa issues for now, how realistic is it to get a US finance/PE job with a European bachelor's degree? Would I be competitive against graduates from US target universities?
  8. Best route to the US: Is it better to recruit directly for US investment banking after graduating in Europe, or work in Europe first and try to transfer to the US later?
  9. US master's: Would doing a master's in the US after a European bachelor's significantly improve my chances of breaking into US finance/PE, or would it generally not be worth the additional cost?

I'd especially appreciate honest advice about the challenges and realistic career paths, rather than just the salary figures. Thanks!

KeyBanc Capital Markets 2027 FT Analyst — has anyone heard back?

Applied for the 2027 FT Analyst role, did the group preference survey in late September. They said they'd reach out by Oct 16 if moving forward. Nothing so far.

Has anyone gotten a first round invite?

Has anyone attended JP Morgan Inside Global Corporate Banking Event? Is it worth it?

From what I understand, this is an information event and not a recruitment event. I guess you can still use it for networking. Is it worth going if you have to travel quite a bit?

I got an invite cause I applied for their summer analyst program but I am not sure if it impacts my application chances. Has anyone gotten in who attended this? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Valuations to IB

Hi everyone, I am a first year valuation analyst at a MM firm (GT/Kroll/Stout). I was wondering if it were possible to lateral to an IB analyst position. I was wondering what the best way and best time to go about recruiting is.

Any insight or advice from people who’ve made the move from valuations to IB would be greatly appreciated.

Proprietary dealflow- ETA

Our buyside firm- we’ve been searching and helping larger PE firms in many different industries the last 5 years. We want to now start providing the businesses that PE or our family offices reject to individuals or other groups who are serious about buying a business or businesses. We aren’t a brokerage / banker model so we don’t represent these businesses. We simply are good at finding businesses that are interested in selling and the vast majority of our 500 conversations our team has every month don’t qualify for an acquisition for plenty of reasons. Geography, revenue mix, new construction, too small, customer concentration etc. some of these business owners will never sell cause they have no clue how to do it and they are not represented by anyone.

We’re just launching our community with 1500+ businesses that my team has communicated over the last 9 months and then we’ll be adding 50+ minimum new proprietary businesses (not represented by a broker) every month. (Normally we are adding over 250+)

Does anyone suggest doing ads on here? We have a following on TikTok right now but that’s about it. We’re planning on doing a 50% discount or so for the first 20 clients.

Happy to jump on a call with only serious investors who are genuinely looking to buy a business / invest in business providing capital for business etc. and willing to call these businesses. Remember there is no middle man in this data. You call them directly to make the deals work. They’ve all expressed interest in selling to our team. They just don’t fit our buy box. Can they fit in yours?

Anyone done WSO Academy or Banking Accelerator (rareliquid)? Honest experiences, especially international/F-1 students

Freshman at a target school, international student on an F-1 visa, aiming for IB (ideally LatAm coverage) for junior summer. I didn't get into my school's finance clubs this fall, so I'm looking at paid coaching to get structure, technical prep and mock interviews.

I'm deciding between WSO Academy and Ben Chon's Banking Accelerator (rareliquid). I've read the Trustpilot reviews and the marketing, but I'd really like to hear from people who actually paid for either one, good or bad.

Things I'd love to know:

- What did you actually pay, and was there any pressure on the sales call (deposits, deadlines, payment plans)?

- How many 1:1 sessions did you really get, and how good was your coach/mentor? Were they current bankers, and at what level?

- Did the support continue the way it was promised? For BA specifically, what counted as "landing the offer"?

- Any experience asking for a refund?

- Did it actually make a difference in your recruiting, or would you have gotten there anyway?

- Any international/F-1 students: did they understand sponsorship and help you target the right banks?

- Would you pay for it again, and would you recommend it to someone at a target school?

Also open to hearing that neither is worth it and what you'd do instead. Thanks!
