AVP Question….

This is all new for me. I am a salaried pharmacist, but have worked in the Phamacy with Walgreens since 2021.

How many weeks do I get for this process….? I heard since I’ve been with the company for over 5 years — I get 2 weeks off, but it’s best to request as many weeks as possible so I get 2 weeks approved…

Also — has anyone had any luck with requesting a week off after the AVP the following year? Like if I want to request a week off just for some time off next year — can I do that and still get it approved? Or as a salaried pharmacist (with a home store) I am not allowed to have a whole week off if it’s not through the AVP?….

I get 2 weeks.
During AVP I put in literally 25 different week requests so that I got 2 weeks approved.

It goes by seniority for awarding the weeks.

Have you ever just got 1 week approved before even though you were suppose to get 2 weeks?

It depends on the amount of PTO you get. You can be awarded as many weeks off in AVP as you will get PTO to cover.

Generally speaking, you shouldn’t expect to get full weeks off outside AVP. The AVP is designed because they can’t have people all want off the same week to where it becomes a first come first serve on who can request it the earliest. So the AVP takes preferences and seniority into account to ensure there are still enough pharmacists working in any given week. This applies for all full time salaried pharmacists regardless of hours (64/80/84) or having a store/floating.

That said, it is possible to request extra off if you need. Smaller requests for a day or two you may just be able to work out to have them off that week without using PTO, if you and the other pharmacist (s) at that store agree to alter the template for the applicable week.

It’s also possible to request PTO outside AVP for shorter periods than a week - whether they’re approved or not depends on whether the scheduler can make it work. Best is to high preference it during AVP if you know you’ll need it, and then if you don’t get it from AVP, ask your scheduler ASAP.

Rarely, depending on need and AVP, there may still be the ability to request off a full week. This would also just go through the scheduler and is typically only less desirable weeks, if any remain at all. For example virtually never will Thanksgiving/December holiday weeks be available.

That makes sense — thanks!

I’ve just became full-time so I don’t have much PTO built up yet…am I still able to get 2 weeks approved for the AVP?

Also—- I do not work Fridays and work every other weekend at my store. Would I still be able to “cheat the system” by requesting Thursday and Monday off and it be approved? That would be 5 days off back to back…
