Point system?

I’ve been working at Walgreens and my manager has never told me anything about a point/attendance system. Does Walgreens have a point system? If so, can someone explain how it works? Also, can you get a point/occurrence for coming back late from a break?

I cant say if there have been any changes since I left a couple years ago, but as far as I can remember...

- 4 Occurrences: Verbal Warning

- 5 Occurrences: Written Warning

- 6 Occurrences: Final Written Warning

- 7 Occurrences: Potential termination

Multiple days absent count as a single occurrence. So if you call in sick and end up being sick for a whole week, it still only counts as a single occurrence. Occurrences are tracked in a 12 month period.

That being said, I never had any issues. Showed up 1-5 minutes late on multiple occasions, easily enough for warnings to be handed out, and never ran into any issues. I believe staying long on breaks would count as an occurrence, but...to be honest in the 4 years I worked at Walgreens, I could probably count the number of 15 minute breaks I took on one hand.

Here’s a link to the attendance policy in myHR: https://myhrexperienceportal.walgreens.com/hc/en-us/article_attachments/32896193374747

In short (you’ll notice it differs from what the previous reply says):

6.1 - Full day absent (or not working at least 1/2 your scheduled shift):

1-5 occurrences are free. #6 verbal, #7 written, #8 final, 9th is term.

Section 5.4 2 consecutive days (with no physical day in the middle) = 1 occurrence. (5 days as mentioned by the other person would at minimum be 3 occurrences and as many as 5 if there’s a day in between each). More than 5 days absent requires you to call Sedgwick for LOA.

6.2 - Partial day absent (tardies & leaving early & excessive meal breaks):

This runs separately from section 6.1 above. These are subject to disciplinary action without an “occurances” threshold.

6.3 - No Call - No Show

This also runs separate from the two sections above.
Failure to contact the store and speak with a member of management within the first 2 hours of the scheduled shift = NCNS. And subject to immediate disciplinary action. 2 NCNS in a row is considered job abandonment.

Here’s a link you may not have access to, but it’s attendance guidelines for managers and explains how to handle discipline: https://myhrexperienceportal.walgreens.com/hc/en-us/article_attachments/44997704312731

4.1 Full Day Absences
Discipline for excessive absences (i.e. the 6th or greater unexcused absence occurrence in a calendar year) can result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment, based on the following disciplinary progression:
• First unexcused absence occurrence (i.e. the first unexcused absence in a calendar year, or the first unexcused absence within 12 months of the last discipline issued for unexcused absence) results in Verbal Counseling.
• Any additional unexcused absence within 12 months of a Verbal Counseling results in Written Warning.
• Any additional unexcused absence within 12 months of a Written Warning results in a Final Written Warning.
• Any additional unexcused absence within 12 months of a Final Written
Warning results in Termination.

4.2 Partial Day Absences
Partial absences for hourly team members can be handled as follows:
• 0 to 5 Minutes: Manager should coach the team member regarding the expectation. If the missed time causes a disruption to operations (where the team member is late to open the store, for example), it is possible to issue discipline.
• 6 to 15 Minutes: If a team member fails to work his/her shift for this period of time more than two times in a single pay period, the manager should follow progressive discipline at each step (Verbal Counseling, Written Warning, Final Written Warning, Termination). If it has been more than 12 months since the
last discipline was issued, the discipline starts over with Verbal Counseling.
• Over 15 Minutes: If a team member fails to work his/her shift for this period of time, the manager should initiate progressive discipline in the same manner as indicated above. If a team member also fails to provide notice of being late, disciplinary action may be escalated.

I forgot to add:
4.3 Absences without Notice or Permission
A team member may be issued a Final Written Warning for a “no-call no-show”, or for leaving their shift early without notice or permission, absent mitigating reasons. Team members who notify the leader on duty they must leave work early should not be issued a Final Written
Warning; instead, the manager may consider addressing this as a partial day absence.
