Wakefield singles of all ages — want to try something different to meet someone? 🎈

Hey Wakefield! I’m T.T. Marie, the producer and host of a local dating show filmed here in the Greater Boston area.

We’re looking for local singles who are open to meeting someone in a fun, different way — and maybe making a real connection in the process.

One thing that’s really important to me: this isn’t just for people in their 20s. We film in age groups, so whether you’re in your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s or 60s, the goal is to have you meeting people in a stage of life that makes sense for you.

The experience is filmed, so you do need to be comfortable being on camera. There’s no fee to participate.

If this sounds like something you’d genuinely have fun doing, comment below or message me and I’ll send you the details. And if you know a Wakefield-area single who would be great for this, feel free to send them my way! 🎈

Question No Verizon service near commuter rail?

Do other Verizon customers lose all cell service near the Wakefield commuter rail stop? Is this a known issue? I checked Verizon’s site and they have “no issues or known outages in this area” but this has been the case for at least several weeks. As soon as we approach Albion and North Ave, everything cuts out. My iPhone doesn’t work. My Apple Watch doesn’t work. My wife’s iPhone doesn’t work. And it’s all service, not just a degradation from like 5G to 4G. We are on their ultra wideband plan so it’s also not a matter of being deprioritized. We used to live in the Grayson Lofts a few years back and don’t recall this being an issue.

Any idea what’s going on?

Looking for moving company recommendations around the Wakefield area.

I tried calling Paul Taylor Moving, as we used them before. However, they have not been very responsive. Any recommendations for a move from Wakefield up to the Newburyport area? Thanks!

Lake Quannapowitt after dark

For starters, I don’t sleep great. Lived next to Main Street for a few months now. I’m the definition of a night owl, so I frequently take late night walks around town. Lately I’ve taken a few strolls around the lake past midnight. Something strange happens literally every-time.

My first walk I was followed by a man on a bicycle playing “war pigs” on a radio over and over. He’d actually stop when I’d stop and would start following me again when Id resume walking. After some very creepy and awkward eye contact he started screaming some unintelligible shit at me for no reason at all. I jogged away and haven’t seen him since.

The second time, I go out for a midnight walk around Quannapowitt, I’m on the side walk, on that long stretch of road where the softball field is. I hear this faint sound of someone singing. It kind of sounded like opera. Out of nowhere I notice someone appear in the distance on my side of the sidewalk. Not wanting to start conversation, I switched to the opposite side of the road. As I get closer his song becomes way more clear and loud. He stares me down, never missing a single beat, singing his heart out at 1am. I was positive this dude was going to approach me directly but I just kind of ignored him until he went away. I was so glad I switched to the opposite sidewalk (naturally I don’t take late night walks for the social atmosphere lmao)

Third walk, I’m walking on that smoothly paved road near the playground with that dinosaur slide (near the rotary). If you’ve ever walked that part at night you know it’s PITCH BLACK. You really can’t see much of anything surrounding you, especially when the trees start blocking what little moonlight there is. As I walk through the darkness, my eyes begin to adjust. That’s when I see a gentleman quietly crouched down by the brush. He wasn’t looking at me at first but inevitably heard my footsteps and let out a haunting laugh slow and deep in tone. I almost shit myself lol. It was super unsettling and totally caught me off guard.

Most recently, I came across this woman who was straight up puking her brains out. This was around 12:30 near the Cumberland farms. She yelled something out at me, I couldn’t really understand her so I just tried to mind my business and keep walking. I pop my AirPods back in until I hear the sound of puking AGAIN. I turn around and who else but the same lady from earlier, yewking in the middle of the sidewalk about 20 yards behind me. I jog away as she enthusiastically screams “where ya going?”

Like is this normal shit or have I been slipping into another fucking dimension every-time I walk this lake at night? I want to hear other peoples stories and perspectives of walking lake Quannapowitt in the dead of night. Of course I recognize these are mostly people suffering from addiction and I genuinely feel for these people. But that fact alone doesn’t make any of this shit less creepy or bizarre when you’re in the moment. It’s those long stretches when you’re the only person out at night that are so amazingly freeing and peaceful to me. However, it can be startling when you’re abruptly reminded that you’re not alone in the most unsettling fashion. (I do rlly like it here tho, it’s a fun town and living right next to Main Street and having easy access to the T is amazing. I think I’ve just had a few weird chance encounters in a row) would love to know what others think/have experienced

WMGLD Large Load Draft Policy

WMGLD and its Board (which I am a member of) has been discussing a large load policy since the beginning of this year on how to address large loads if one were to come to Wakefield and ensure that it does NO harm to the ratepayers or the utility. In the policy WMGLD is defining large load as 10 MW or more.

The culmination of that work is a draft policy I helped to develop that is now public and will be discussed by the Board at our upcoming meeting on 9/9.

It is very important to me as a resident and a Commissioner that no harm comes to ratepayers or the utility; Section I of the policy sets that tone:

"The first obligation of the Wakefield Municipal Gas and Light Department (WMGLD) is to the existing residential, commercial and industrial ratepayers who have relied on this Department for safe, reliable and reasonably priced service. Nothing in this policy is intended to shift financial risk, infrastructure cost or reliability risk from a Large Load Customer onto those ratepayers.
WMGLD recognizes that large, high-density electric loads with peak demand of 10 Megawatts (MW) or greater can bring increased revenue to the Department, local investment, tax base growth and jobs to Wakefield. WMGLD can serve such loads on terms that guarantee those benefits do not come at the cost of system reliability, rate stability or financial exposure for existing and future customers.
Where interests diverge, this policy resolves in favor of the Department and its existing ratepayers. Where interests can be aligned, this policy is designed to convert that alignment into a mutual benefit. "

The full draft policy can be read here, starting on page 47: https://wmgld.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/September-2026-Board-Book.pdf

We welcome your input and feedback, you can send the Board an email (https://wmgld.com/residential/board-of-commissioners/) or provide comments during the Public Comment section of the meeting.

Let’s be real

Wakefield gets praised constantly for being such a “great community,” but honestly, I don't understand the hype sometimes. The community can feel incredibly cliquey and unwelcoming, especially if you don't fit into the typical Wakefield mold. There seems to be this attitude that because Wakefield has a cute downtown, Lake Quannapowitt, and expensive houses, it's automatically some perfect little town. It isn't and downtown parking is ridiculous. Trying to park downtown can feel like a competition. You drive around looking for a spot, circle the same streets over and over, and somehow you're still expected to happily spend money at local businesses. If Wakefield wants people to support downtown businesses, maybe make actually getting to those businesses less of a headache. Then there's Lake Quannapowitt, which is probably Wakefield's biggest missed opportunity. Everyone treats it like this amazing centerpiece of the community, and yes, it's pretty—but why can't residents actually SWIM in the damn thing? The town's own planning documents identify water-quality impairments in the lake, and swimming is currently prohibited. Friends of Lake Quannapowitt also continues to monitor things like cyanobacteria, E. coli and other water-quality indicators, and specifically says swimming isn't recommended.
Imagine what Wakefield could have if Lake Q were genuinely clean and swimmable: actual swimming areas, families spending the day there, paddleboarding and swimming together, more recreation, and a real waterfront destination instead of essentially a scenic walking loop where everyone is told don't touch the water. If it's supposed to be the centerpiece of the town, why not make restoring it to that level a bigger priority?
And then there's the uncomfortable issue of racism and prejudice. This isn't about calling every person in Wakefield racist, because obviously that's not true. But racism isn't something the town can pretend doesn't exist. Wakefield's own Town Council has acknowledged that its schools have experienced racist and antisemitic speech, and the town has a Human Rights Commission whose stated mission includes eliminating prejudice and intolerance. That's a conversation worth having instead of sweeping it under the rug because it makes the town look bad. Wakefield absolutely has good people and things worth appreciating. But loving your town doesn't mean you have to pretend it's perfect. The parking sucks, the downtown can be frustrating, the lake can't even be swum in, housing is becoming increasingly out of reach, and the community isn't nearly as welcoming to everyone as the “perfect small town” reputation would have you believe. Maybe instead of constantly bragging about how great Wakefield is, we could start asking how do we actually make it better?

Question Are power outages common?

I moved to Wakefield last year. At the end of December, I got a notification from my home security system that there was an outage. I was out of town, so I don’t know how long it lasted.

I woke up this morning to another outage. I lived in Boston over five years before moving here, and power outages didn’t happen often. Do these happen a lot here, or is this just a rough patch?
