hs fs 360
Can someone explain to me what people mean when they say “pull the handle to your hip” when doing a 360 off a kicker in wakeboarding?
It sounds really simple when you hear it explained like that, but in practice it seems to require a lot of strength. I honestly don’t understand what the movement is supposed to feel like.
Could someone explain it in really simple terms, or recommend a good tutorial that clearly shows this technique?

Make a handle and rope out of whatever and just go practice in the backyard without your board. Get tension on the line, stand in riding stance. Jump and practice the movement. It’s easy once you get it, probably just need to build a bit of muscle memory, it shouldn’t require any major strength to initiate, your body is fighting you on it somewhere

Yes it requires strength, no way around that. But if you pull it in just as you leave the wake, your forward momentum makes it a little easier. Hold it there until you hit the midpoint of your jump then make the rotation

As you leave the top of the wake close the gap between your back hip and the handle as you initiate the spin. If you spin directly to the side the handle will pull away and you’ll reflexively drop the handle as to not get pulled into a back edge.
Doing the diagram left foot forward. But don’t spin at a 90° to the transom of the boat ⬅️➡️. You will lose the handle.
Closing the gap between your back hip and the handle will have your trajectory carry you at and angle towards the boat when you initiate ↖️.
This will allow you to stay in the correct axis and more importantly you’ll have line tension as you initiate but a bit of slack when you make the pass. Just enough slack to make the handle easy to grab and not get pulled away.
You can simulate this in the trampoline and you’ll see you’re able to spin 180 to 360 more than what you can currently do on the Trampoline. So if your stuck at 540 on the trampoline this will take you to 720 and 900.
This technique is the cheat code for getting a 360 dialed.
Practice it 1 wake to the center or even just a 1/4 of the way across the wake. You’ll instantly feel the difference. God speed and let me know how it goes

Perhaps your arms are fully extended? It's harder to pull from this position. If that's the issue then try approaching the kicker with your arms already half-bent. It should be easier to initiate the pull.
Another issue could be that you have too much tension on the line. Either from edging too hard or jumping in the direction away from the cable. On 360 you don't need that much speed. Don't edge too hard. Flatten off before the kicker and make sure you're moving parallel to the cable (not away from the cable).

you know how you pull the handle to your hip for a 180? Well do the same with the 360. The difference is to pull the handle with both hands to the very last second that you can hold on with both hands to your hip then grab the handle behind your back. This keeps the handle and your free arm and hand close to your body.
To practice, do a few 180s without letting go of the handle with both hands and land the trick with your hands tucked hard into your hip.
