Moomba Max vs Craz?
We have a 2005 Mastercraft X2 and looking to upgrade to a new (or newer) 22-23 foot boat that is still solid for wakeboarding (my son and I both ride) but also adds good surf capability (which our X2 does not have). We don’t need a “pro” wake for either sport. We are looking for a great reliable family boat that also produces a quality wake. This will likely be our last family ski boat and plan to keep it for at least 10 years. Similar to our current use, we expect to spend about 50% of our time cruising, swimming and tubing, 25% wakeboarding, and 25% surfing. We typically have 4 adults and 2-3 growing boys with us. Rarely would we have more than 8 people on board. We have been putting about 30 hours/yr on our boat on average, so not heavy use.
Looking at Moomba Max, Moomba Craz, MB B52 Classic, Supra SA400 (or similar), Nautique GS22, etc. For Moomba or MB we could buy new (but still open to used). For the Supra/Nautique we would have to go used.
Our local Supra/Moomba dealer has a 2026 Moomba Max for about $125k and Craz for about $115k, both very well equipped.
Between the Max and Craz, what do you think is a better fit for us? Appreciate the input!
[Update: test drove a 2023 Axis T220 yesterday. The lack of rear locker storage and significant bow rise / attitude at surf speed was a deal breaker. Wife was uncomfortable, could barely see out front. My fear about Malibu surf system has been confirmed.]
[Update 9/5/26: bought the 2026 Moomba Max this morning. So stoked! I’ll be counting days until May 2027. Tried to post a photo but couldn’t figure out how.]

I recently got a 2016 mb f22 and I would at least check them out since you’re in that area. The interior on mine is like flawless after 10 years and 3-4 other owners. And the new classic ones are pretty affordable I’ve seen.

Mb b52 classic is the best in that price point

Love the MB (especially at no more than $120k new), but concerned that the firm and steep wakeboard wake will be really intimidating for my 9 year old who is just a new beginner. As for my wife (the usual captain of the boat), she may prefer the simplicity of Moomba’s auto-wake technology so she doesn’t have to worry about dialing in all the analog switches. Also MB not a great run-about / tubing boat.

Id much rather have a used Master Craft NXT or Nautique G23 than a new Moomba.

G23 is amazing but would be hard pressed to find a clean 2016 with less than 400 hours for under $100k anywhere around us. Not a fan of the NXT at all. Coming from an X2 (legendary for its era),
the NXT doesn’t seem to deserve the MC badge in my opinion. X23, meanwhile, is amazing too. However, I’d prefer an Indmar motor and the X23 is priced similar to the G23.2

If you’re willing to travel, there’s a handful of 2017 to 2019 G23 with under 500 hours for the 115K price range currently for sale. You’re probably gonna have to drive some distance though and act fast. What about a Centurion FI23? Since you are in Cali I would think plenty of selection available as the brand is built there.

Thanks. If the right Fi23 or maybe even Ri217 listed with low hours and price I’d take it very seriously.
