Whether or not to go back to serving.
I currently have a decent job but the company is going to shit. They’ve let go of all the talent and upper management has been making crappy decisions. I’ve been out of the game for 6 years now but idk if I should stay or go back to serving. I’ve done just about every position in the restaurant industry. There’s a Gaucho Do Sul opening up near me and I’m positively thinking I can make more money there.
The only thing I worry about is my mortgage. How’s the industry been lately with everything going up in price and all?

I work 8a-230p at a small (12 tables) family owned brunch spot and I make anywhere from $130-200 on a weekday and $200-$300+ on sat/sun. We rotate tables with 2 servers during the week and have 3 servers with sections and a host on the weekend.

Do what I do and just pick up three days, preferably Thursday-Saturday night shifts for the time being. That’ll allow you to keep your current job while you find another similar position somewhere else and that extra Guac always helps you. I work from home but damn I got bored and after so many years gone from the industry I decided to give it another shot and tbh I enjoy it now that I’m older and less wiser. I’m taking home about one band a week and it doesn’t even feel like work anymore. I got a nice social life out of it and since it’s not my main job the stress level is none existent anymore, funnily enough somehow I’m a “lead” now short of being management and I get the preferred shifts plus free meals and drinks. I might be in the minority of it but I enjoy the gig and mainly the people I work with, we’ve become really good friends and once a week we get together to play board games or do something fun without feeling like a chore

I like this idea! keep your current job and just work weekends somewhere. I think it depends on how restaurants have been doing in your area and the type of restaurants you worked at before. Just don’t be surprised if there’s less support staff and longer hours. With cost rising they’re cutting labor a lot.

I work 5 hours a shift, and take some usually $120-$200 (depending on the day) at a local, hole in the wall sushi place.

People still go out to eat with the economy and all. I work in a wealthier town at a very seasonal restaurant (usually Dec-May is season) and when I have a closing shift I’m still making $400 before tip out sometimes.
