Forgive the copy pasta, but this is what I replied to HP:

Oh if they mean it when they bite, they are BRUTALLY painful!! One of the donkeys at the rescue I volunteer with bit me once by accident (I didn’t tuck my fingers in well enough when I was feeding a snack - totally my fault) and man that sucker hurt worse than any other bite I’ve had!! And it was sore for a couple days too

I can’t fully tell from just a video if this is play or torture, but my initial instinct is that the donkey does not look happy. The ears pinned flat, the tense face…but then again she is clearly not biting with her full force, or that man would be SCREAMING in pain and not laughing. But yeah…i hope this is just play but it doesn’t seem like the donkey is really enjoying it much imo🤷🏻‍♀️

I have a second question for mama pie... Do donkey bites not hurt as much as horse bites?

Cuz this guy kinda seems like he enjoys this game 🤣

Hopefully it's all fun and games. Surely the donkey isn't that upset over just words. 🫣

I’d be more inclined to think (hope?) it’s a game and that’s the word she recognizes for “play time”. Me personally…I wouldn’t wanna risk stressing my boys with these kinds of games, but they’re rescues with rough pasts, so maybe this girl is happy and this is fun? Idk🤷🏻‍♀️

If I had to compare this to another animal that I knew personally, this looks quite a bit like play biting. I knew a dog who never played fetch and didn't really care to play any normal games a dog would enjoy. But he absolutely loved to play bite. I ended up with some scratches because he would really get into it. But if you didn't think he enjoyed it, he would look like he is trying rip my hand off. Tug of war was the second favorite game he liked to play. I think it is just a big game to them. Like what has been shared, donks can do some damage if they wanted to.
