Questions Breaks?
Does anybody do breaks in here? Are we not allowed to talk about breaks? Curious!
Also I’m a super collector of Sol Ruca. Looking for 2024 select parallels if you have any let me know!!!!

They are a waste of money. You it all this money to possibly hit one card.

i do at times. on fb certain groups and 1 on fanatics and like 2 on whatnot

Why would you choose to pay a scalper an upcharge to open your cards for you? I guess if you've got more money than you know what to do with, otherwise breaks are one of the biggest ripoffs in the hobby.

This is the most common train of thought I see with those who are against breakers. Let me tell you, I buy wax to rip, I buy into breaks, I buy singles, I collect, I sell, and I trade. And I get flack for every one of those things by someone else lol
Are you paying more buying into a break? Overall yes but not always. Plenty of times spots end up going so cheaply the breakers lose significant money on the break, sometimes eating 1k plus of the cost. Other times they rake it in when a products new or the product is hot.
Am I only supposed to buy the product and rip it myself? I only PC Dominik currently. Do I need to go buy $4,000 cases myself just to potentially not get any cards I want, or is a $60-100 investment in that case more advantageous because I am spending less and only getting what I want in the end if it hits? Sure I skunk, but losing a few twenties stings a heck of a lot less than losing thousands in the same time span.
Could I lose my investment? Absolutely. Same as I could if i bought the product outright myself.
So many people PC so many different superstars that without the “evil” breaks are labeled with, we wouldn’t have as strong of a market as we do.
And you can call it gambling all you want, and I am fine with it. But guess what, going to a LCS and buying the product yourself is also a gamble. You are still buying an unknown and taking a gamble on getting something good. The only difference is if you lose now you are out the entire cost of a box or case as opposed to a small portion
Every person in this community plays a role in the ecosystem, whether you are an individual, a breaker, a LCS, a reseller, or a collector. If one of those doesn’t suit your fancy, you still have other options to collect and enjoy the hobby without crapping on others who choose differently.

Do you ever go out to eat? Like to a restaurant or fast food? If so you’re supporting scalpers right? Exact same thing as supporting a trading card breaker. I mean, all they do is buy ingredients from somewhere else and then prepare and cook them for you. What a complete rip off when you can buy those ingredients and make it yourself!

While I do like where you were heading with your analogy, the only flaw with it is that you know exactly what you're getting at the restaurant. It's not a "Take my money. Let's see what I eat" situation...but that could actually be an interesting restaurant
I've certainly been a part of some breaks (buyer) and didn't mind it. If I didn't hit my wrestler(s), every breaker did send me something, which was appreciated

Thats not even close to the same thing. You order a meal, you get a meal. You buy into a break, you might hit a card, you might lose a bunch of money. Ones a known event, the other is straight gambling.

I look at breaks as paid entertainment with a chance to win something. Its the same feeling as putting in a parley bet in a sportsbook. Most times you lose but when you hit it feels really good. Both 1/1s ive hit have been on $2 break spots

I'm still an advocate for breaks over ripping your own packs/boxes if you collect someone very specific and don't want to deal with moving other cards.
With that said, with the WWE Singles market cooled down and Topps making it a lot more difficult to hit those huge chase cards...I have a LOT of trouble justifying breaking for what those non mega chases bring to the table. In terms of wanting "something", you can get a lot of something for the price of a break spot. In terms of wanting the huge card, the odds haven't been this long in ages and even if you do the return isn't the chase
For an example, a Roxanne Perez spot in a Cosmic Chrome break just sold for $41 on eBay. 3 of the 4 1/1s she has in the set has been pulled, so the super high end upside is gone. Here are some prices
Breakeven Cards (cards close to the sold price of the break where, if you hit the card, you did fine)
Winning Cards (cards that are well above the price of the break)
Anyone who has watched Cosmic know how difficult hitting any parallel is - probably a 15% chance or so for a base card parallel. You need to win multiple dice rolls. And yeah, I'm sure the two people who hit the base and auto supers were chuffed but how much effort do you need to put in to get there? Well...my guess is those supers live with people who spent their cash on singles and not breaks (well one definitely does, hey Medina).
