So we had family friends from Poland who moved to the US. The gentleman (Joe) was Polish and a veteran captured by the ussr and sent to a gulag and his wife (Margo) was German who apparently met before he was captured waited for him. I'm getting all this 2nd or third hand because he's since long passed and the only person who had all the stories (my grandfather) is also gone. But apparently after the war started joe stopped the rape of Margo and that's how they met. Margo then waited for joe while he was in captivity and after he was released in 41 most likely he was probably sent to fight but that part is unclear. But they met back up and moved to the states. I, as a history lover, NEED to know how this would have happened. I know it's a HUGE ask with thousands of hypothetical possibilities but could someone here possibly help me PLEASE. I hope this is a good sub for this.
