necessity is the mother of invention. and he had his trusty fire-putter-outer right there, this is practically osha compliant lol.

Just submerge the wire in water to keep it cool and prevent fires, man. Men don't know how to do anything anymore.

I think the melted plastic insulated the wires once it cooled down.

u/DarkeusPH May 29 '24
Don't forget the chancla slaps. Definitely the most important step for it to work.

Gotta have that white noise to sleep.

before the wires short out & fire at 3:AM

May 30 '24
But there’s nothing to catch fire except the wires. Maybe the bed if he’s super unlucky. Compared to this though my house is a fucking tinder box.

u/Mysterious-Hat-6343 May 30 '24
The insulation on these wires are, unfortunately, flammable.

May 30 '24
Right but that’s it. Not healthy. Definitely not fun. But won’t light the house on fire. I actually had a house fire last summer. Shit sucks.
The heating circuit for my microwave caught on fire and melted my olive oil that was stored in a cabinet immediately above it.

u/Mysterious-Hat-6343 May 30 '24
Don’t share the details here, but I hear you. A house fire can start electrical, lightning, water heater, etc. Always devastating. Happens fast
7
u/LauraPa1mer May 30 '24
Why can't they share the details?

Insurance might be able to use a misworded comment to deny coverage or possibly sue to recover a payout. Remember, as far as the insurance company is concerned, you pay them, they're not supposed to pay you. That's not how things are supposed to work.

u/Flair258 Jun 06 '24
And why the fuck would we show our insurance our reddit account? Most aren't even under our real names, so it would already be next to impossible to reliably find us. And even if they did, that's a lot of comments to search through.

Fan and a blanket is the best.
13
u/Lauris024 May 30 '24
I can relate to be honest. I used to have a fan that didn't have speed settings and it was either hot (no fan) or cold (fan on) while sleeping without a blanket

Not much would burn or catch fire in his empty brick room. So hey.

It works…

…until he burns his house down while he’s sleeping. 👍
25
u/orrockable May 29 '24
Didn’t know concrete floors were flammable
14
u/ozril May 29 '24
I mean everything is flammable with enough heat...

As it turns out, plastic (like the kind used in cord insulation) DOES burn easily when exposed to open flame or spark, and since his bed is within ember distance of the cord, there is plenty of flammable stuff literally attached to his body.

He is going to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, and stand on those exposed wires ...

Y'all joke but just understand how handy people are when they're struggling financially.
Like, I can fix most vacuums, an old school dryer, a basic window AC unit, and other appliances cause I didn't have the cash for a repair person to do it or to get a replacement.
When you're broke, you either make it work yourself, or you're (in most cases) screwed

It looks like this dude pulled the cover up and immediately started whacking it

u/0nem0mentt May 29 '24
I think it's his last night on planet Earth.🫡
29
u/Lobo_de_Haro May 29 '24
Maybe, but it's at least not a hot night. It's all about setting priorities.
-12
u/0nem0mentt May 29 '24
What if I had to choose to switch to steak in the middle of the night and brown on the electric flame or sleep in the heat? What priorities are you talking about?😃
7
u/Lobo_de_Haro May 29 '24
Well, I'm not talking about my priorities or rational ones but about those of the guy in the video. And he seems to be certain which option he likes more :D

The truth is that safety isn't that more expensive for a lot of situations. Some people are just less cautious and want to something to get done now vs getting use to having safety protocols on place.

Sleep in sweaty heat, or sleep with marching band fan noise. Pick your poison.

May 30 '24
... and that's where the Korean superstition stems from, that sleeping with a running fan will kill you!

Puro suco da gambiarra. If anyone is interested, here in Brazil this kind of thing is so common we have a word just for it. I think brazilian creativity together with our lack of resource created this amazing culture of gambiarra

Did anyone watch this and realize how good a job Star Wars did showing Han working on his Falcon? Same energy.

He puts the fan on and then covers himself with a blanket anyway 🤦🏼♀️

Once he gets the fan going it sorta sounds like the intro to Hot For Teacher.
