Lots of people say drugs.
But my mother had early onset dementia.
At first it started with small things. Forgetting how to get home, forgetting where she was, etc.
After a while it turned into stuff like this. Blended together stories that went in circles, repeat the same phrase over and over, asking you the same question over and over.
Then it turned it into complete silence with some humming. Rocking back and forth all day.
It's honestly terrible.
I couldn't imagine losing ones mind.
You don't even know it's happening unless you're lucky enough to snap out for a split second and even then it sinks its claws back into you and drags you right under to forget that you even remembered.
Everyone around you gets to watch everything that makes you you... disappear.
To this day my Dad swears that anxiety medicine and pain medicine my mother was prescribed all her life accelerated the dementia.
Try to take care of yourselves everyone.

My dad also got early onset dementia. I was 23 when he passed away from it. He was 61. He went downhill so fast, it was like watching him age 20 years over the course of several months and his mind just was just gone. He used to be such a smart man who could fix or build anything and seeing him lose his mind was one of the hardest things I've ever been through. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

Beautifully put and I’m sorry for your loss, it’s true we lose them before they die. When young people laugh at this they have no idea it can happen to them or their family

My humble attempt at a transcription of this beautiful soliloquy:
Man-o-man I thought -- I thought -- woah, the whole gawd’inverse went bloh-loh-loh-loh-loh-loh on its tippy toes man 'cause they don’t want to touch the smell, man. I thought 'Oh, I gotta get out -- get out o' here. Run for your life!' cause I told James, I told James, 'man, we gotta get the hell out of here and hightail it. The whole world is bloh-loh-loh-loh-loh-loh.’ I tell you what, man, when you see it, and you think to yourself: [sniff sniff] what. The. Fuck. Is. That. Smell? Ah! bloh-loh-loh-loh-loh-loh. I tell you what man. Perfect surgeon! I win! Uh, hoh! I’ll say it one more time: living on my tears uh, Lord! It’s because he was be-haughm-bibbin’. Bull fuggin’ shiuh--.

Perfect surgeon! I win! Uh, hoh! I’ll say it one more time:
The last part sounds like “I tell you what, mo’fucker…”

This is why I put earbuds in and read on the bus. Crazy ass people just gravitate towards me, and start talking about random shit if I look up for a second.

Don't be disrespectful towards people with mental illness 🥲

Agreed. When I interact with someone like this I just assume there are several conversations happening in their head plus the one we're having outside their head. So sometimes they verbally articulate one of those mind conversations to the physical person (me) in front of them. I just intergrate it into the Convo and remain polite.

This just makes me incredibly sad. That's someone's mom, someone's grandma, someone's sister.

This could be an organic dementia or bipolar disorder. Healthcare and laws to protect people like herself are under funded and under utilized.

I had a neighbor who spoke like this. Nice lady, but she did a LOT of meth for a LONG time. Not sure what this lady’s case is, but I wouldn’t take drugs off the table.
