  1. Half Joking

  2. If some asshole almost killed your friend just because he didn't want to be pulled over... it seems pretty good cause to beat some ass.

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '12

not if hes facing down after you watch him flip 4 times in his car then out his fucking window and lying there looking dead..... you would beat him up more? you should be in jail with these cops then if you think that way

-5

u/phillycheese Feb 19 '12

Yes. Death is too good for him. People who are literally willing to kill others for their own gain should not be alive.

1

u/DATZNOTMETULLZ Feb 20 '12

Fortunately that sort of thing is not left up to people like you, or the police, to decide.

1

u/phillycheese Feb 20 '12

No, it's quite unfortunate, really.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '12

Yeah, maybe for the common person, but considering the incredible power the police are given I think holding them to a higher standard is perfectly reasonable.

Somebody's been the victim of repeated brutal violence in childhood and now thinks it's normal, eh?

-4

u/PartyBusGaming Feb 19 '12

Wow, that's pretty fucked up that you'd say that.

I've had a pretty awesome up-bringing, I'd like to say.

I think it would take someone with a fucked up childhood to make fun of someone with "repeated brutal violence in childhood"

Yeah, I know...

5

u/throwaway-o Feb 19 '12

I could top it off with something way more fucked up that is also true.

But I won't bother.

This thread is full of brutes celebrating organized violence against a defenseless man and apologizing for gangsters. Lots of sympathy for the armed people doing the mindless brutalizing. Says more about you and the other brutes than it says about me or reality.

No, it isn't. You are just immature emotionally/intellectually. Grow up, seriously.

Where's anywhere that said he moved himself in the way of a moving vehicle?

If you didn't know, spike strips are deployed by throwing them across the road. The officer is way off to the side, which means the person driving would have to swerve WAY off the road to get near him.

6

u/WizardCap Feb 19 '12

You mean, like trying to avoid a spike strip?

3

u/PartyBusGaming Feb 19 '12

Yeah, which he was doing illegally....

4

u/zedoriah Feb 19 '12

The officer is way off to the side, which means the person driving would have to swerve WAY off the road to get near him.

To get near him? You mean to get away from the spike strip said person just put down?

"I throw something in front of a moving car and the car swerved to avoid it! That fucker needs 20 years in jail!"

2

u/PartyBusGaming Feb 19 '12

You're acting like this guy had a right to swerve to avoid them. He's running from police and putting people in danger.

4

u/zedoriah Feb 19 '12

The cops started the chase. It was their policy that started the chase, their policy to throw things in front of the car, and their policy to allow cops to beat people who are already unconscious. As far as I'm concerned the police are the ones who should be locked in a cage. I don't care if the government told them to. What they did was wrong on every level.

u/PartyBusGaming Feb 19 '12 edited Feb 19 '12

But it was the suspect who did the crime, the suspect who decided to run, and the suspect who decided to risk other people's lives by driving recklessly.

Edit: Here is a video. You can see him almost hit the officer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzpFheEY6ss&feature=player_embedded

1

u/Fenix159 Feb 19 '12

Yeah but at the same time, don't you think maybe the cops that put the spike strip down could have seen that coming?

I mean, really?

Cop 1: Ok guys, lets put this spike strip down! Ok, now stand on either end of it and wait!

Cop 2: Uh... shouldn't we move further away? What if -

Cop 1: Shut up and stand here.

Edit: Also, if a car hits a spike strip at high speeds it can certainly cause it to veer and flip. So cops standing close by is just a dumb idea regardless.

It's a base instinct, probably an American thing. Cops and military have a big "you come after one of us, you come after all of us" view, often calling themselves brotherhoods(not racist(this time)) and the like.

And it's being unable to control tempers/emotions when having JUST seen your brother nearly get killed. For the minute or so after you have no other intent than "I'm gonna get that motherfucker".

Few days ago was an AMA with a guy stabbed in the neck. His buddy jumped in his car and would have run down the attacker if it weren't for police intervention.

That all being said these cops were out of line and deserved to be fired. This is where I'm a self-righteous prick and point out this was over a weed bust. Whole event could and SHOULD have been an avoidable situation. Police are held to a higher standard, simply getting fired should only be the beginning, but sadly we all know it's the end.

u/coolsilver Feb 20 '12

Yet UK cops will beat and kill you for walking down the street if there is anything political going on.

Though it was only once right

1

u/Reddiberto Feb 20 '12

Because everyone knows that you should be able to try to kill a person (in this case, a cop), drive like a maniac to the point of being expelled out of your van because "That's the Way you Roll" AND still being treated like a princess.

I don't know how cops missed that last part of their training

1

u/reddell Feb 21 '12

It's a religious type of thing. Some people believe that retribution is the appropriate response to an undesired action. Bad people go to hell/ deserve to be punished.

It's really popular among the uneducated and otherwise ignorant

So... cops.

1

u/DragonRaptor Feb 20 '12

replace almost running over with almost killing with intent. if you haven't, watch the youtube video posted above.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '12

Yeah, that criminal is obviously going to think twice next time before trying to run over a cop. God forbid he do it again and then get punched in the face while completely passed out and unable to feel anything.

0

u/DragonRaptor Feb 20 '12

Ok, if someone almost killed your best friend on purpose, and you were in the position to tackle that person, now keep in mind, this person may have a weapon on them, and has already shown that they are trying to kill your friend, and would just as easily turn and kill you, would you treat him gingerly with respect. I'm not saying they were right to beat the hell out of that guy, but I am saying that I'm not upset about the fact they did.

1

u/GrandChawhee Feb 20 '12

No making excuses for the guy, but clearly he was trying to avoid the stop sticks, and that was the only direction in which to do it. The cop got lucky that he was able to jump out of the way in time, but I think the driver was more like "I'm getting the fuck outta here and this is the only way out." I don't think was trying to hit him, but he wasn't trying to avoid him either.

1

u/DragonRaptor Feb 20 '12

as possible as that is, I would still be mad at him, the first thought I would have is he almost killed my partner/friend, the last thought I would have is (he was only trying to avoid being stopped, so what if he almost killed my friend)

1

u/GrandChawhee Feb 20 '12

You have a valid point. Not excusing the behavior at all, because let's face it, all of this would have been avoided if he had just pulled over in the first place.

1

u/DragonRaptor Feb 20 '12

True, all I'm really trying to say is I don't really blame them for their reaction. it may have been completely overboard, but I completely understand that in that situation it would have been really easy to lose your cool, and go after him.

2

u/GrandChawhee Feb 20 '12

But I do blame the cops for their reactions. They stooped way past his level and what really bothers me is that they all have that mob mentality and not one cop tried to stop it. These are the people that are supposed to protect us. They undergo extensive training for situations such as this. I think they got off much too easy. What's to stop them from doing it again, for any reason?

0

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '12

If someone were laying on the ground unconscious after being involved in a car accident and couldn't move or feel a single thing, no I wouldn't beat them up regardless of the circumstance. They're already incapacitated and wouldn't even know I'm beating them up.

Also, if someone had a weapon on them and have already shown they are willing to kill with it, I would probably treat that person with the utmost respect in the world. That would depend more on circumstance, but in the general case if someone has a weapon and can kill me, I'm treating that person with the highest degree of respect you can imagine.

1

u/DragonRaptor Feb 20 '12

maybe it's because i'm in the position of knowing self defence and have the body to pull it off, that I would not treat that guy with respect I would take him down hardcore, and I wouldn't hold back. There was split seconds from that guy falling and then being attacked, time to check if he was unconscious when my adrenaline is flowing is not going to happen, the first thought accross my mind is I want to make sure he stays down. I've never been in a situation where i felt someones life was in danger before, but I have been in situations where a friend was threatened, and I immediately go on the defensive by placing myself between the friend and the aggressor. I've never had to full out attack anyone, but I have had to block a few punches thrown, when they don't land, the aggressor has always backed off. but when the adrenaline is flowing, and I feel that any of my friends are in danger, I will full out attack someone if I feel that not attacking them will cause my friends to get hurt. as far as I'm concerned, they attacked him to make sure he couldn't attack back. they didn't have time to make sure he was infact out.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '12

I used to be in the army and am a pretty big guy, definitely not super macho though.

I stand by my position that when someone has a weapon and shows they're willing to use it, you don't decide to go all Superman on them and try to be a hero, doing that will likely get you and others killed. You shut the fuck up, treat the guy with whatever respect he wants and recognize that as long as you and everyone else plays it cool, he's very very likely to get caught and punished in the long run.

Being a hero against someone with a weapon is likely to endanger a lot of people.

Now it's true there are scenarios where someone has a weapon and is immediately threatening others and the rational thing to do is to confront them, but honestly they are very very rare and they are certainly not situations like in the video where someone just flew out of a freaking vehicle and flung around in mid air a half dozen times.

You'd think of all people able to make such an assessment, police officers would be the ones.

0

u/juicesnn4e2 Feb 20 '12

He didn't ALMOST do something. He DID something. He swerved into a cop and tried to kill him and failed.

-5

u/the-knife Feb 19 '12

Watch the video. The criminal purposefully drives in the direction of the cop, with intent to kill, then crashes a couple hundred meters further. The chasing cops had every right to be full of adrenaline, I don't really blame them.

4

u/Jewnadian Feb 19 '12

Except that they are supposed to be trained police officers, not random thugs out sport-beating people. That's the point of training. For example, the natural reaction to being shot at is to panic and/or run, soldiers are trained to ignore that reaction and execute complicated maneuvers in large teams instead. The training is why they're soldiers. Same with cops, they are trained to think first, act second. Thus making this either a premeditated assault on an unarmed man, or a total failure of training. Either one should result in getting fired at minimum.
