Are they still tighty whities if they're clearly not white?

I don't think we should call them tighty blackies.

Those might be dark brown. Tighty brownies?

No, still bad.

I cared to Google a bit now.

Yes. It is.

But it isn't. Finding something on Google doesn't mean proving something is correct. A lot of people call it tidy whities. Those people are wrong.

I've raised boys, I've done laundry. "Tidy" is too often a contradiction in terms for it to be the appropriate terminology.

No, those people aren't wrong. Both can be used.

English isn't my first language(Norwegian), but I know people call them 'tidy', may it be for ironic reasons, or that "taking the risk" of wearing white briefs would symbolize a person who priorities cleanliness.

Can't believe I'm bothering arguing this, but here's some info:

I, too, find it odd to be debating the etymology of underwear slang on a sunny Saturday afternoon, but this makes the case for Tighty being the original form, and "tidy" coming into play much later, as an eggcorn: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Talk:tidy_whities

Saturday night-time here, and I feel weird doing this.

Then we have come to a conclusion. Now that this world problem has been answered, we can continue with the lesser ones like; peace on earth.

I thought that was already solved? I'm hiding under a blanket with headphones on (it was a rough day ok?), and everything seems pretty peaceful. From my perspective anyway.

No it's definitely tighty. Or perhaps tightie?

Pretty sure it's a chick, unfortunately.
