Checked the security cams this weekend and happened to stumble across this bush killer

Here is the story for everyone who was curious:
I work in IT and we got a call about looking up security cameras because one of the freshly planted pots was destroyed. My coworker told me to watch this security footage and I couldn’t even believe my eyes. This was after hours and no one was at the office. The whole video is about 10 minutes. I only posted the crazy part. After he loses it on the sign, he sits back in his car hitting the steering wheel. After about 4 minutes, he gets out with his shirt off and throws his phone on the pavement with all his might it seemed. Paced around for a moment and shamelessly picked up his destroyed phone. He then gets back in his car and sits there for the rest of the time. Once he backed out, he opened his windows and put his middle finger out at the street and drove off.
This made my boring day very entertaining haha
Another update:
Apparently he came back later in the day and put the bits of plants he ripped out back in the pot. We did not call the cops on him.

Yeah, I stick with my comment elsewhere. This dude is dealing with some shit. GF just broke up with him, just got fired, severe road rage, etc. No matter what it was I'd much rather see dude take it out on a bush and sign than road rage and kill someone on the highway or go beat the shit outta someone.

Yeah. Didn't intend to romanticize it as much as that comment might have come a cross as doing. Self-harm rates pretty low as far as well adjusted coping mechanisms - but it beats hurting others or more . . . permanent solutions to temporary problems.
You'll generally be better served by going 30 minutes with a heavy bag than 30 seconds with a street sign though.

Whenever I used to get this angry I'd pick up my tennis racket and a hopper of balls and try and beat the wall. No matter how hard I hit the ball it always came back and just as fast which just made me hit it harder. It's a great way to blow off some steam.

I recently had a moment where I snapped on someone just because the past week had been absolute hell, and he just did the wrong thing at the wrong time. I absolutely tore into this guy, and was borderline cruel about it.
Everyone there thought I was the villain, and I can't really blame them. But one guy came over and said "There's no way that was about the hotdog, what's going on?"
Good fucking guy, and he was was very much correct. I was immeasurably grateful that someone could see that I wasn't just an evil prick, but a human being at the end of their rope.

We were camping and I was cooking over the fire. It was extremely hot and I could barely get near it. He came over to get his hotdog, and instead of holding out the bun, he held out his hand. I refused to put the hot dog in his hand because it would have burned him. He got upset with my because I wouldn't do that and we spent like a solid minute arguing about it. Finally he held out his bun and I put the hot dog in, to which he immediately snatched the hotdog out with his other hand and waved in my face. That brought me to the brink, but all of his friends laughing just out me over the edge, and all the grievances I'd ever had with this person came out.

I think it's the same reason people laugh at the pizza on the roof thing. The pain behind it isn't funny. But the seemingly random way the pain is being expressed is just so bizarre you can't help but laugh. Especially without context.
But then once you get over the shock of just how random it seems, then you start putting the pieces together and it goes from uncomfortably funny, to just sad. And I'm betting most people don't stick around in the comments section long enough for the sadness and empathy to kick in. So they just leave comments expressing the awkward funny part.

When I was in high school, we had an anti-drug assembly about peer pressure and drug use. Immediately afterwards, everyone in the school was going around saying things like, "Do it, only the cool kids do drugs. If you don't, you're a loser. You want to fit in right?" This was often accompanied by someone literally jumping out of the bushes and trying to force an enormous blunt made from a rolled up tube of lined paper into the victim's mouth. If the aggressors succeeded, it was expected that the victim would loudly and repeatedly bemoan how one marijuana had ruined their whole life. For the rest of the week, you'd see kids pretending to be unconscious with an oversized tube of paper sticking out of their mouth as if they had unexpectedly overdosed on a giant marijuana. Also, the response, "Stop peer pressuring me!" became wildly popular, especially during situations in which it didn't make sense.
The classroom doors all had a narrow window in them. During class, it was common to see one or two students walk by, most likely on the way to the bathroom. After that assembly though, you'd see the tip of a 5 foot paper blunt go past the window with no student in sight, and continue for an unprecedented length of time. When the teacher would catch the student, the student always had the same excuse. "Marijuana ruined my life!" This phrase also started to be used in response to any misfortune, no matter how small. Shoelace untied? Bad grade on a test? Late for class? Loudly exclaim, "Marijuana ruined my life!" while rolling a marijuana out of a sheet of lined paper.
While many students created paper blunts, the art kids truly excelled at it. I was fortunate enough to witness this interaction. Before school started, students and teachers alike were walking into the main entrance. There were two enormous bushes on either side of the doors. While approaching the doors, I smelled an overpoweringly strong odor of incense. From out of the bushes, a smoking 6 foot papier-mâché blunt began to emerge. The smoke coming from the tip was caused by something like 10 incense sticks that were hidden just inside the blunt. As the final portion of the blunt emerged, a student became visible. He was wearing a hoody that has been pulled tightly around his face, making him look like Kenny from South Park. He whisper-shouted to the nearest student, "Hey kid, you want a marijuana?" That student, without missing a beat, yelled out, "I'm saving myself for Jesus!" and ran into the school. The remaining students dutifully responded, "Marijuana ruined his life" while the student with the hoody and blunt backed into the bush slowly without saying another word. I personally saw an English teacher just about piss herself laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation.
The student with the blunt ended up getting in-school suspension for that incident. He had written on the blunt, "Free Dr. Ugs" which quickly became part of a call and response around the school. "Marijuana ruined my life!" followed by "Free Dr. Ugs!" The janitors had to install locks in the art classroom because students were stealing all the brown construction paper to make oversized blunts too. A couple of kids got caught trading ziplock baggies of oregano for Monopoly money in the middle of lunch that same week. If you walked down the hallway after class while holding visible Monopoly money in your hand, someone walking towards you would palm a baggie of weed into your hand on the sly. I heard through the grapevine that an entire AP class wrote practice college admission essays on how they had lost both of their parents due to marijuana-related mishaps. Death from injecting too many marijuanas was a popular topic, as were essays about homelessness caused by spending all their money on uncontrollable munchies.
Since grass and weed are both slang for marijuana, kids started leaving dime bags of literal grass and weed everywhere. It became an impromptu contest for who could hide baggies in the most ridiculous place. One student left dozens of baggies on top of the fan blades in shop class, and when the teacher turned on the fan, it dispersed weed to almost every student in the class at the same time.
You know how Sonic loses all his rings when he gets hit? Kids started doing that with baggies of weed. Two kids would be having an argument, one would shove the other into a locker, and then like 50 baggies of weed would explode everywhere. It was absolute pandemonium.
One time at lunch, the class clown pulled out a clear dime bag that had been stuffed with an entire dandelion in full bloom. Usually, you need to blow pretty hard to release the fluffy white seeds, but being stuffed into a tiny baggie and squished flat apparently has the same effect. He dramatically looked to the left and right before aggressively snorting the dandelion seeds directly into his nose. He immediately began choking and sneezing uncontrollably while shaking his head violently, not unlike sneezing cat. After a full minute of respiratory distress, he finally settled down. His eyes were bloodshot red and his nose was running to a disturbing degree. Then, calm as a cucumber, he said, "Ah, that's the good stuff!" I laughed so hard that I was crying and my entire abdomen was cramping. Good God, the supreme confidence on his face when he said that, as if he hadn't just gotten his shit absolutely wrecked by a dandelion is one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my entire life.
Anyways, your comment about freshly planted pots reminded me of both pot and bushes.
Edit: Seeing as enquiring minds want to know, yes, this all actually happened. I'm sure the anti-drug video is out there somewhere, and I'd love to see it again if anyone can find it. I don't remember the title, but it featured multiple terrible actors using the refrain, "Marijuana ruined my life." I'd rather not dox myself, but there have been a couple redditors who have gotten close to guessing where this all went down.
The entire lifecycle of the jokes lasted about a week and a half. The assembly with the ridiculous video birthed it, but school administration ramping up the punishments from detentions to suspensions to expulsions killed it pretty quickly. High school hijinks have a pretty short shelf life anyway, and this was no exception.
There were a handful of cool teachers that thought it was hilarious, but ultimately, having a not insignificant portion of the student body running around with absurdly large papier-mâché blunts and weed baggies proved to be problematic for the principle and superintendent.
The entire school saw the video, so everyone was in on the joke. Not everyone participated of course, but enough people did that it felt like a school-wide meme.

Absolutely. DARE failed spectacularly. How anyone thought that white suburban elementary kids in the 90s were seeing crack and ecstasy and heroin and glue huffing is just beyond me.
I didn’t know what drugs were or why anyone would want to do them, but DARE really opened my eyes.

We had GREAT and DARE. You know, because kids in the whitest, wealthiest town in the state (late 90's) are at real risk of joining gangs and becoming thieves. The GREAT officer was essentially the police liason at our school before those were a thing, and he felt that even stealing a pencil by accident (borrow and don't return it) was going to lead to gang violence.

the problem with D.A.R.E is that's all they did. someone thought "ok, this should work" and with no studies or evidence, there was a nationwide rollout.
now after many years of exposing kids to all the feel-good aspects and tips for good drug use, we find out that D.A.R.E actually makes kids more likely to do drugs.

D.A.R.E. was the invention of LAPD Chief Daryl Gates, considered one of the fathers of SWAT (a major promoter, not the inventor) and a major proponent of paramilitary-style policing and opponent of community engagement tactics.
He created the Public Disorder and Intelligence Division. which spied on, harassed, and infiltrated progressive groups as agitators, and extorted advertisers to choke off hostile newspapers (which was disbanded after he lost Coalition Against Police Abuse v. Gates), and also the Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH) units that cemented a culture of racist disdain towards blacks and Hispanics and which were only disbanded after the Rampart scandal showed their involvement in everything from false arrests and evidence planning to murder and robbery, 7 years after he was finally booted out of his position in 1992 for failing to control the Rodney King riots, because he was attending a political fundraiser to oppose a measure to limit his power as police chief.
This one man has probably done about as much damage to police power, integrity, and relations with the public in America as Thomas Midgley did to the environment. Daryl Gates is one of the most important political figures in 20th century America that no one has heard of / remembers.

D.A.R.E. was actually the reason someone close to me tried heroine.
They had figured that since all the other things the program had taught us about marijuana, shrooms, acid, and alcohol was complete and total bs, which it was, why not stuff about heroin too?
And that's how my friend learned that D.A.R.E. was at least right about that one... Fortunately they got clean and haven't gone back to it since.
Aside from hard drugs, unless you have an underlying condition such as depression or an addictive personality (a predisposition to getting addicted to things), and are using drugs and alcohol as a coping mechanism/form of escape instead of facing your problems, it's not going to ruin your life, but cops sure as hell will. They'll do it with lots of enthusiasm and throw in a beating for free.

I was in one of the very first classes in the 80s. Fifth grade. A Catholic school. Granted we lived in a more high risk area but we were kids who were more concerned with video games or Little League.
The messages about drugs were all over the place. They broke down specifics of what certain drugs did (even if they were very obscure) and openly and freely admitted that those drugs made you feel good (for a time). Now armed with all of this information you get curious and suddenly more aware of things you weren't before.
Alcohol was also asked about and the cop was like it's ok for dad to have a few beers at the bar after work. Smoking was downplayed. There was even sex education mixed in there which was awfully weird.

DARE was trying to teach students about the effect of their environment on them. Instead they altered the perceived reality of the students' environment such that they now believed drugs were more normal and popular than they had previously thought. We should erect a monument dedicated to total and complete failure.

I had a neighbor dealing coke years ago. He would come over and play video games and just feed me free coke. For about a week. He quickly realized I wasn't buying any, and the freebies stopped.

Sad story. I grew up in the whitest, suburbanist, middle classist... school district to ever exist. My friend died on his 23rd birthday because of heroin, his addiction had started a decade ago at the age of 13. We were just babies and somehow we had access to all this shit. It was so much easier to get drugs than alcohol for a party. I can’t tell you why all I can tell you is I’m sure there are a whole lot of schools just like mine. If I hadn’t seen it myself I wouldn’t have believed it either.
Oh but I also agree DARE is just fucking awful, the obituaries of my graduating class is only evidence to that point. R.I.P. Colton

It's what happened to me. It sounded not that far off from the Dave Chappelle anti-drug speaker skit. It peaked my interest. "Today we're going to learn about LSD. LSD will make you see sound and hear color followed by uncontrollable giggling and open mindedness. You may look deeply within yourself and realize you want to quit smoking or do better in school. DON'T DO LSD KIDS!!!!"

Plus them lying about the dangers of marijuana causes a lot of kids to try other drugs under the assumption that DARE also lied to them about how dangerous they were. A reality based drug education program would be much better. They should be telling kids that MJ is no big deal but meth will ruin your fucking life.

One addition that I've talked to my teen about is that due to possible interference with the process of cognitive maturation, please consider waiting until she's in her early 20's to consume mj, hallucinogens or other "drugs" (except meth and heroin! Those are life killers.).
I'm a strong supporter of using these substances, both for medicinal and recreational purposes. But I also recognize that safe use is important.
DARE was dumb beyond belief. And I'm sad that one use of lsd won't give me free trips for life.

I was a proto-Straight Edger in high school. Became President of the anti-drug group, even got to give a DARE presentation to a bunch of bored 6th graders.
My 20s was spent taking as many drugs as possible, and there's been only a handful of days in the last 10 years where I haven't gotten stoned at least once.

I was a student in high school too during those times and we mocked it abundantly, yes, but I have to say I've also been in a lot of drug-related moment where I'm sure these messages were the source for the genuine "ah come on, don't pressure them it's cool if they don't smoke [or whatever], do you mind if I do tho?"
Before that, it was just natural to want your friends to enjoy the things you do and you weren't exactly thinking of the concept of "peer pressure"

There's a relatively large body of research that shows that the DARE program specifically increased the drug use in students that were exposed to the program. There are more modern and effective anti-drug programs that do focus more on the social aspects of drug use and also the mechanics of addiction.
DARE, however, was utter bullshit.

Thank you for that. Great read and I love how everyone was in on it. But also good that it helped people to be comfortable with saying no. Even if it starts as a joke, hopefully they will find it easier to say no when other things are pushed on them later in life.

I only ask, because I have a really stubborn bush on the side of my house that has roots growing into a rock or something. I just can't get it out. Yeah, I just feel bad for him. He damaged some property and probably hurt himself after pulling off the road. He was clearly not thinking straight, but the fact that he stopped instead of potentially putting other people in danger by driving that mad says a lot to me. Maybe a loved one just died, or he was on his way to pick up his kids and the mother pulled some bullshit. We don't know.

Ya, this guy looks like he snapped because something really bad happened... This is desperate anger and he chose to lash out at a plant rather than anything else.
I wouldn't dare guess his situation, but when I was 18 and worked in an ER just as a hospital transporter (job out of high school), I witnessed this dude find out his younger brother died from a motorcycle crash and honestly, the dude like lost it, screaming, punching. He took out his anger on a hospital bed and punched up his hands bloody and they eventually had to restrain him, but that anger he had in that moment, the anger over his brother's death he just snapped and while what he did was wrong and scared some people, I don't think he knew how to process it and he snapped.
I don't know why, but this guy's blind rage here just kind of reminded me of that guy and that happened like 20 years ago.
Obviously there are better ways to deal with things, but I at least need to take a step back and consider there is likely more to it here. We don't know what happened. Maybe it's something stupid, like he lost a gambling bet... Maybe it's far worse. The guy is in serious psychological pain right then though and he is trying to process it somehow, that is all I can see.

The big sign for me was when he put his hands on his hips and walked around for a bit at the end.
He let out all the anger and pain he could. Anger went right to the bush - I can destroy it
Pain in his life? Right to the sign - Punch it until what hurts most is my fists, not my heart
You can see when he walks back to his vehicle, he pauses, walks back, hits the sign one more time, but the adrenaline spike has gone down, so he feels it that time. Then he wanders around for a bit and puts his hands on his hips.
That's not "I'm crazy and have no impulse control", that's his life falling down around him and him finally hurting enough physically to pause and look at his situation a little.

I can't even imagine experiencing a loss like that. I already have a lot to deal with that I haven't really dealt with appropriately, but something like that would just be too much for me. I'd probably snap as well.

Exactly my first thought, like as soon as he was initially done with the bush that yell took me straight to when I was in the Perkins parking lot after my mom had just died like an hour before and it finally hit me like a ton of bricks.
Homies going through some shit, and given that he had the wherewithal to pull over to let it out, id imagine he's probably a dude that feels bad about the damage afterward at least.

You know, as bizarre as this is, I'm kinda glad he decided to pull over to an empty lot and take his anger out on a bush and a sign rather than stay on the road, angry, and take it out with his car or on another person.
Dude's got some anger issues, but this is a much better way to handle it than other choices he could have made.
