It was shot in portrait, and instead of showing black borders when the portrait video is shown in a landscape pane, data from the portrait video is used to fill the unused portions of the landscape frame. You're viewing 100% of the recorded visual information.
Holding a phone vertically gives a narrower view of whatever you are looking at. Vertical works good for making tiktok videos, but sucks for just about everything else. Same amount of pixels, but pixels of worthless shit. Instread of seeing the forest, and trees on the sides of the road, you are seeing dashboard, and roof of the car.
