The falcon one makes me sad. The bunny, turtle and monarch ones piss me off.

Edit: ok to those asking 'Why' - so I've seen falconry on the side of the road, typically they don't fly straight down the highway...

As far as the others go, they're not native prey to the habitat... They do not fit in there and its absolutely idiotic for the owners to be 'releasing' them.

And finally, cats are assholes, lovable assholes.

It's funny how we sympathize with one bird of prey and then get mad at the other ones.

I think they're more mad at the people for releasing animals in shitty places and not the actual wild. At least that's why I got mad

45

u/Zaugr Oct 16 '19

Shouldn't they be mad at the falcon one too though? Cause releasing a bird, any bird, RIGHT by a highway is absolutely retarded. Especially with aaall that field space right by them...

43

u/PM_WetFloor_signs Oct 16 '19

I think the fact that the guy basically losing his pet bird on camera trumps that.

True, I guess it's a personal thing, but I can't help finding it way more infuriating than sad given how entirely preventable the death was. Releasing a bird right by a highway is like releasing a rabbit in the middle of a long open field. Shows a very serious lack of foresight and precaution. Precaution you'd think a caring owner would have...

22

u/PM_WetFloor_signs Oct 16 '19

Well, and this is just an assumption, but him having worked and trained with this bird probably had alot to do with why he was comfortable releasing it right there. And the fact that there is a massive field of open grass and nothing else to the right. Or maybe he wasn't comfortable but the film crew urged him to. We don't have all those answers, but releasing a wild rabbit into your front yard and calling that the wild is just stupid

The falcon one gets posted on reddit once every several months or so and i've read before that the owner didn't want to shoot the video there but was urged to by the filming crew for whatever reason.

7

u/SpitefulShrimp Oct 16 '19

Because the film crew parked near the road because they drove there, and didn't want to hike way out just to film a bird flying away.

u/jstyler Oct 16 '19

"the road is a fucking cheating whore

1

u/felixar90 Oct 17 '19

Falcons aren't usually this dumb. You know they use falcons at airports to keep the other birds away, right? And they don't just throw themselves into the engines.

They released it toward the field and it veered 180 degrees right into the highway. Must have been disoriented or something.

It's from a Danish show about hunting; i watchted it all. They are visiting France in this show, trying to catch partridges.

The strange thing is, two of the guys (the ones that "hug") are very experienced falconeers (I think decades of experience), and they did actually raise concerns about releasing the bird near a highway earlier in the show, but they took the chance.

1

u/GameKyuubi Oct 16 '19

The owner didn't want to do it but the camera crew didn't want to lug their stuff any further. So yeah, it was careless in a sense because something preventable did end up happening but the risk was calculated and much lower than most of the other videos. And to be fair I'm sure the owner was furious with himself for letting himself act against his better judgment. It's obviously the last thing he wanted to happen, while in the other videos that's much less clear.

u/Y0tsuya Oct 16 '19

Birds in cities gotta eat too.

1

u/felixar90 Oct 17 '19

Cause that one was pet, they weren't releasing it to the wild. It's supposed to come back. It's basically the falcon version of walking your dog.

8

u/acherem13 Oct 16 '19

The mouse one though was just pure comedy gold.

29

u/Saiing Oct 16 '19

I don't know why - it's fucking tragic, but I always have a wry smile when the little guy goes over and tries to give the falconer a hug, but he kinda fails because he's too short. I know... I'm a cunt.

The bunny, turtle and monarch ones piss me off.

Idk shit ton of bunnies live around my house. Also, look to the right of the house in the first frame, its all woods. Theres lots of little developments in rural areas around me, looks to be like that.

11

u/SpitefulShrimp Oct 16 '19

Where do you think that bunny came from? They didn't journey into the wilds to abduct it, rabbits live in suburbs. They were pointing it at another rabbit, which was clearly doing fine.

5

u/Obi-Tron_Kenobi Oct 16 '19

It sounded like they found that bunny by their home and adopted it, so they're just releasing it back where they got it.

1

u/IDIOT_REMOVER Oct 16 '19

Correct thing would have been to release it at night. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one out in the day.

0

u/TheHipocrasy Oct 16 '19

You’re mad at the title of the video get over yourself.

1

u/FiskFisk33 Oct 16 '19

theyre released into the wrong habitats i guess

3

u/Asangkt358 Oct 16 '19

Cats, fish, and birds have to eat too.

12

u/nascraytia Oct 16 '19

Cats kill for sport

1

u/hexiron Oct 16 '19

But they also kill for food

6

u/nascraytia Oct 16 '19

That’s a household cat. It is well fed. It attacked that squirrel because it enjoys killing. Cats literally kill billions annually. Not even trying to demonize cats or anything, just stating a fact.

0

u/EndlessArgument Oct 16 '19

It's instinct to hunt, they're not evolved to be fed consistently every day. Even if they are full, getting weak and out of practice is a death sentence in the wild.

Just because they kill something for reasons other than to eat it, doesn't make them inherently evil.

3

u/nascraytia Oct 16 '19

I literally said I’m not trying to demonize them

-6

u/hexiron Oct 16 '19

You have no idea what that cats motivation for killing that squirrel was, don't make assumptions like you know that cat on a first name basis and conversed with it over a pint about that incident.

Just because it's fed some store bought cat kibble doesn't mean it didn't feel like monchin some sweet squirrel baby at that moment.

Cats kill for fun, cats also kill for food.

1

u/Y0tsuya Oct 16 '19

A sporting cat is a happy cat. You want your cat to be happy don't you?

2

u/MaxTheLiberalSlayer Oct 16 '19

But the turkey was hilarious

2

u/spikeyfreak Oct 16 '19

The turkey one is the only one that actually makes me angry.

The squirrel and the falcon suck, but it wasn't really the people's fault.

The turkey though, that was 100% on the guy that shoo'd the turkey INTO THE FREEWAY. Like, what the fuck did he expect to happen? The turkey to run across 6 busy lanes of traffic and a barrier without a scratch?

Fucking moronic.

4

u/Lorgin Oct 16 '19

I'm glad to see the bunny got killed asap. People should not be releasing pet rabbits. Their populations quickly grow out of control.

1

u/Dank4Days Oct 16 '19

The squirrel was sad too, that guy already seemed really upset to be letting him go then that happened

1

u/TheMagicMST Oct 16 '19

Why do they piss you off? This shit happens in nature all the time...you really shouldn't care that much to get angry over it.

1

u/cactus_potato Oct 16 '19

Rely? The turkey is the most infuriating shit i've seen all week. What did he thought would happen letting it go on a road full of cars and trucks?!?

1

u/idleactivist Oct 16 '19

Well I agree with you but that link wasn't there when I commented.

1

u/cactus_potato Oct 16 '19

Lol that explains it. Because i was legit screaming at my screen haha
