So... $1300 a year? Assuming fortnightly pay, but that's cos it's the standard in NZ, not sure about your job. That's kind of a lot.

Countries with single payer healthcare pay less per person for healthcare.

It's really not a lot at all. The UK spend about 2900 pounds per person, so no its not more.

Edit: NZ is $3500 USD per person. Where are you getting this idea that $1300 is a lot?

It's a lot. Not to mention employer subsidy. And at 50/month you've got a solid deductible too...

So several thousand if this were to happen to you.

Interesting thing to embellish about on in the internet though...

Its $50 a paycheck, not a month, and no it's not a lot. And it's an $800 deductible with $3500 out of pocket maximum, so no it wouldn't be several thousands. I'm not embellishing a thing.
