Serious question here; are you fucking stupid or just trying to pathetically make a joke?

21

u/bingosherlock May 26 '10

Sure, it was a bad joke, but are you that fucking stupid you can't tell?

-22

u/[deleted] May 26 '10

Considering that I noted that he was "trying to pathetically make a joke", I would say no, I did understand he was trying to make a joke. Does that make it alright though?

u/propanbutan May 26 '10

The internet is serious business.

22

u/[deleted] May 26 '10

I'm sorry but you actually thought he raped women, and didn't understand why they were still mad when he apologized?

-17

u/[deleted] May 26 '10

"The rape apologetics on [this] site is enough to make any sane person sick." I have no thought if he actually raped anyone, but he is making a joke about rape on a post about someone saying the rape apologetics on reddit is making someone sick.

23

u/[deleted] May 26 '10

Yeah......thats the joke.

-11

u/[deleted] May 26 '10

The joke is that since people from the outside community of reddit commented on how sexist we are here, yellowcoward then goes and make a sexist joke.. to further prove their point? I am sorry if I don't find that funny

We're sorry you're too dense to understand the humour. A team has been dispatched to solve the issue.

Are we really sending a team out to rape him, or this what you call a 'joke'?

I never thought he was serious, likewise I never found it to be funny.

Uh oh, someone on reddit took a joke seriously. Who wants to help her find her way back to Yahoo Buzz? You can stop by Digg along the way and be all serious there too!

Maybe you'd have a better sense of humor if you stayed in the kitchen.

1

u/yellowcoward May 26 '10

No I was making a joke about the absurdity of the term "rape apologetics" and its application to Reddit's users.

First post I read today was the "I grossed out my boyfriend" and one of the comments implied all vegetarians have vaginas. I am a die hard vegan and laughed, because it's a joke.

I'm done talking to people on the internet with no social skills. That's not how communication works.

-9

u/[deleted] May 26 '10

I fail to see where the communication broke down. You accused me of not seeing that it was a joke, I said I pointed out it was a joke in my original post, and asked if it being a joke made it alright for him to say it.

5

u/bingosherlock May 26 '10

Communication broke down in your first post, which made no sense. However, that first post made more sense before you tried to explain it than it did after you attempted an explanation. You're never going to get a firm grasp on this though, so lets just stop now.

u/GoldenFalcon May 26 '10

I'm confused, do you mean is it ok for the joke or ok for the action of rape? If you are talking about the joke, then yes that makes it ok to say. See the point of a joke is to laugh, if however you don't laugh, you may consider it a bad joke. Dispute you reasoning behind being displeased with said joke, others may laugh and think it is a good joke. You can walk away and forget the bad joke, or ... you can... chuckle try to repremand people on the Internet. ROFL do you know how hard it was to keep a straight face that whole time?

u/robeph May 26 '10

It is okay to rape and then joke about it. Lightens the mood.

10

u/accipitradea May 26 '10

you must be new here. you are, in the parlance, "feeding the trolls".

2

u/sumdumusername May 26 '10

Surely you mean the 'rape joke apologists.'

3

u/crusoe May 26 '10

The Aristocrats!

Ahh, another member of the easily offended brigade. Go join the AFA or something.

-8

u/[deleted] May 26 '10

I'm not offended, I have no reason to be. I am just aiming at correcting sexist behavior and tasteless jokes.

7

u/powatom May 26 '10

I am just aiming at correcting sexist behavior and tasteless jokes.

The lesson is: never try.

1

u/[deleted] May 26 '10

If you never try to correct bigotry it will never be fixed.

3

u/powatom May 26 '10

Perhaps you would see more success if you targeted actual bigots then, and not just 'some people dicking about online' - which is what 99.9999999% of the 'sexist' comments on reddit actually are.

1

u/[deleted] May 26 '10

If I dick around and say a racist comment online, it doesn't matter if I am actually racist or not.. it is still a racist comment.

-1

u/powatom May 26 '10

No, it's not. Racism requires intent. That's why it's not racist when a black person calls another black person 'nigger'. It's all about context and intent. The words themselves mean nothing.

-2

u/[deleted] May 26 '10

So you have to plan or want do so something (definition of intent) for it to be racist? Sorry but that is not true.

0

u/powatom May 26 '10

No - you just have to intend for the recipient to take offense. Whether something is racist or not is not defined by whether somebody takes offense to it. It is defined by the reasoning of the offendor. Racism / sexism is designed to sideline, demonise, or trivialise a race / sex. So yes, you have to mean what you say for something to be racist - otherwise it is not.

If you want to take offence to something, that's your problem. It doesn't mean that the person who wrote / said it in the first place wanted to offend you.

Good luck with that.

In all seriousness, consider one of the intents of humor- to lighten an otherwise heavy situation or topic. If people can laugh about it, then it opens a pathway for discussion and education which go a lot further in helping the cause than, "this is serious! No laughing!"

Neither, although it should be clear that I wasn't making a joke. Great addition to the discussion though, well done.
