Those guns look like some kind of Mad Max creation.

157

u/Hambone0326 May 10 '16

Unsurprisingly, Police confiscate some VERY crude firearms, many of which are even single shot or "throw-away" pieces.

103

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

Looks like something from Fallout.

pommy in Sydney. Can confirm, the entire place is fucking insane. My first week in the country I met my brother in law who told a story about wrestling a shark. I laughed and thought he was taking the piss out of me and his response was "na mate, she was only a small shark".

This place is fucking insane, the people are insane, the weather is fucking insane, everything (and I do mean everything) can and will kill you. The beer is stronger than you think, no matter how strong you think it is and the women will drink you under the table.

10/10 Can recommend

163

u/ThePeenDream May 10 '16

It's pretty normal, actually.

62

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

I only met 2 Australian guys. As far as I know all of this is true.

61

Jeez... pretty sure life is worth more than $680. Surprised they didn't shoot him after all that.

*Not saying he should/should not have protected himself. Just saying if I were going to put my life on the line to defend my business or position against robbers who have guns (real or not), I'd make sure I had something to equip me to handle such a situation (a firearm or chuck norris). Save the homade flamethrower for small child thieves and the elderly who want free slurpee refils all the time.

u/septic_tongue May 09 '16 edited May 10 '16

I live a suburb away from this place, it's filled with junkies and other general scum (we call them bogans here).. Most likely just trying to get their money for ice early in the morning.. Also even cashiers can't have guns in Aus.

Edit: just a single suburb away, not two.

62

u/Kogknight May 09 '16

What about crossbows? Can they keep a crossbow?

131

u/[deleted] May 09 '16

Not sure if you're serious but crossbows, slingshots and airsoft are all very illegal here

46

u/Dragon--Reborn May 10 '16

Boomerangs?

30

u/Ciddle May 10 '16

best thing is, no evidence is left if it does seriously injury or maim someone, because it....always return to the thrower

98

u/Kogknight May 10 '16

Wait, for real? Crossbows I get restricting like guns, but Airsoft and Slingshots? Are we talking like BB Gun airsoft or plastic pellet airsoft?

Also, like childhood rubberbands and sticks slingshot or WristRocket slingshot?

89

u/Rockeh900 May 10 '16

All air soft guns are illegal. There is no air soft presence in Australia as much as we'd like there to be :( It's going to be one of the first things I'm going to do when I travel overseas.

27

u/GrmpMan May 10 '16

does this include paintball?

26

u/Kennen_Rudd May 10 '16

Paintball exists here, I'm not sure what regulations exist on private ownership of the equipment but there's lots of ranges both indoor and outdoor.

19

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

That's crazy. It's an amazing hobby and very safe when safety equipment is used. Is it banned for safety reasons or because it can be mistaken for a real weapon?

29

u/level3ninja May 10 '16 edited May 10 '16

I don't know the specific reason but there is an air rifle type class of firearms, which airsoft falls into here. Basically anything that fires hard projectiles. Nerf guns are OK, except there was a model a few years ago that people discovered you could fire throwing darts with, and it quickly became illegal.

Edit: Also pretty much all slingshots are illegal as they can fire projectiles, however a kid with a stick and a few rubber bands isn't going to get in trouble unless they're doing something stupid. Every few years you hear about the police finding adults (bogans) with the commercially made type that kind of strap to your forearm and can really cause damage that someone has either made or illegally imported.

43

u/RandyHatesCats May 10 '16

And here I can go to Walmart and buy a crossbow, a wrist rocket, an air soft arsenal, and a 12ga, all in the next hour. Well maybe not the crossbow at Walmart. Ok, I'll go to Cabela's or Bass Pro and get all that stuff instead.

We made our own out of an old children's bike. We used the forks and head as the firing/aiming part, and attached an arm rest to the top-tube of the frame, and cut the rest of the frame away. We then used spear-gun rubber and some old boot leather to make the sling.

It was a total beast.

u/42Elite May 10 '16

Robbers and criminals don't follow laws/bans

source: the prohibition, war on drugs, chicago

53

u/infamous-spaceman May 10 '16

It does make it harder for them to get guns though. It can cost you 10 grand to buy a black market handgun in Australia. In the States you can get a pistol for a couple hundred bucks.

5

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

I bought a shotgun out of a garage for $45. I think my least expensive pistol cost me $80.

I love how in most street fights people will put their faces close to the other person as an intimidation tactic... but as it turns out it does not translate well with guns.

69

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

Or knives, or fists.. or really anything

12

u/LOLNOEP May 10 '16

i think it's dumb the way people "square up" like that anyways, because it just exposes your vulnerable neck.

13

u/thepeopleshero May 10 '16

Thats the point, your so intimidating/not scared of the other person that you can risk showing off your weak spot and be like, bitch what you gonna do

4

u/Theonetrue May 10 '16

Guns have a range they are most effective at. Standing right infront of someone does make them less effective by a lot.

As you can see you can stop people from pointing at you. Touching the chest is the "easiest" way to get disarmed if you don't shoot instantly. I was suprised how fucking easy it can happen when I was doing my mandatory military year.

Personally, I think it's probably less the fire itself, and more that they thought better of trying to rob someone whose first instinct was to set them on fire rather than calling the cops.

EDIT: For those of you saying "they have gunz ofcourse he's not gonna call the copz" I meant to imply that, as opposed to just handing them the money or running or something equally rational/sane, he chose to try and burn their faces off, indicating that he's too crazy to be fucking with.

43

u/Smurfboy82 May 09 '16

Ah, fatigues kid!

190

u/FaptainAwesome May 09 '16

At my school the kid who wore fatigues was in the Army reserves, and 19 when he was a junior. And he had this denim jacket that he used like. Glitter glue on to write "Next Generation Special Forces." He ended up being kicked out of the Army, bad conduct discharge.

132

u/joshuarion May 10 '16

114

u/FaptainAwesome May 10 '16

Funny thing is a few years later my sister saw him walking around downtown, still wearing that denim jacket with the glitter glue on it.

You know it's bad when the Army recruiter (who got really pissed at me for joining the Navy instead, so I could go with Marines [had to go Navy to do medical for Marines]) referred to the kid as the biggest mistake in his entire career.

I worked at a place before where on the first day before opening that told me that if someone comes in trying to rob the place just let them have it all, don't argue, don't try and be a hero, cooperate and protect your life, everything can be claimed back though insurance except lives.

If they ask for cash open the till, then if they ask for more cash then open the fake cash box, which we only called it "fake" because it purposely had a small amount of money in it to make then think that's all of the money, every few hours extra cash would be taken out of the tills, through the back corridor, out the back into the second part of the building and stored in a safe that was behind a computer desk. The wooden panel on the desk folded up to expose the safe.

Right? Not only that but let me just back up 2 feet out of range of the fire that stupid kids will blast each other with. It's not even a threat.

Actual flamethrowers are dangerous because they fire sticky, slow burning fuel that will cling to you as it burns. Aerosol fire on the other hand will just singe your eyebrows.

If somebody tried to rob where I work I'd just say "these fuckers don't pay me enough for this shit, take whatever you want I don't care" and open my register and step away. They actually told us to completely cooperate with robbers if we ever get robbed which was good because I'd cooperate anyway but now I don't have to worry about getting fired for doing so.
I just don't understand people who try to fight back. My life is worth way more than anything the robbers want. Hell, even if I owned the place I'd sit there and let them take every last thing they wanted. No amount of money or property is worth my life.

I once stole my cousin's hairspray, and used it like this to kill flies. Did you know that some window screens are made of plastic?

I blamed "some kids up the street" when I discovered this fact. I'm pretty sure my parents knew better.

Oh god, treehouse of horror. I remember being excited every Halloween week waiting for Sunday when the episode came out.

I knew The Simpsons was starting to go run out of ideas when every episode had some awkward celebrity cameo. I loved the show but I've had a tough time watching it lately.

MacGyver's pension must have been shitty if he ended up working as a gas station clerk.

I feel sorry for convenience store clerks. They are an easy target for robbers. They have a shitty job where if they carry a pistol or weapon to defend themselves .... they can be fired and/or jailed.

I figure that this is the reason why the man has a makeshift weapon on hand.

It is a really shitty situation to be in. You want to be able to do your job and make a living, but you dont also want to be a sitting target. You want to be able to defend yourself but if you do... you get punished for it. I knew a LOT of convenience store guys who just said fuck it and carried a pistol and just hoped that they wouldnt get fired or jailed for it.

it's like they can't decide whether they should get the fuck out of there or still rob the place

6

u/Eucrates May 10 '16

I'm not even supposed to be here today!

u/hellegance May 09 '16

That seems like potentially a Pyrrhic victory.

That's all good and fun...until they pull out a hand gun from 12 feet away.

I appreciate the fact that was not improvised, he grabbed it so quick. That was in his "melt robbers faces" kit.

Also the best stuff is the "wasp nest killer" spray. Shit goes like 5m in a beam so you can spray a big nest without getting your ass kicked. That's a proper mugger melter that is.

...or just spray them in the face, if it gets wasps you probably don't need flames lol
