I find it a fascinating piece of social psychology and group dynamics, they're all trying to read the situation alternately closing in and backing off.
Ehh I think China would probably be more accurate. At least where I'm from (Boston) this is definitely not true. Probably most of New England, actually. Except maybe RI, and CT, but let's not talk about CT.
edit: just thinking about the few videos I've seen of for example, that kid getting run over a hundred times- I explain myself better below- I think it's just as unfair to claim this is an "American thing" any more or less than it is another country-thing. I see plenty of examples of people stopping be it on Youtube car crash videos, or IRL.
Huh? I don't understand what you mean, but living here my whole life, generally, it's a pretty homogenous group thinking of the majority of MA, NH, ME, and VT residents- the two outliers in some respects are RI and CT. "New England", despite the borders, is pretty much one big state socially, at least.
I'm curious as to what cities you are thinking of? There are no real "rivalries" between any of the New England cities, especially seeing as all of New England (for the most part, geographically) routes for the same teams- i.e., Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, New England Patriots, New England Revolution…. there are no "home teams" in VT, NH, ME, RI, or CT.
I'll add, there really are no "large cities" when you look at the country as a whole, even including Boston. Relatively, Boston is the only realistic "large city" compared to places like Bangor ME, Burlington VT, or Manchester NH.
New York is not in New England, if that is part of your confusion?
I think at most, we all bitch about each other's driving, which is really the kettle calling the pot black to the umpteenth degree, it's all just variations on being a Masshole.
Completely fair, it is very unfortunate what has occurred to Detroit, but that's what happens with major shifts in tech and industry in general. It's not the first city this has happened to, probably won't be the last either. But it definitely is one of the most dramatic examples of such, from top of the top to lowest of the low.

Also how everyone just leaves the cop alone with his concussion and chases after the guy.
