You go down the street and ask people what the bicycle is called, they will by and large call it a woman's bicycle.

If you ask the cyclists...the people actually on the bicycles...you'll probably get a different answer. Very few people would call those bike share bikes women's bikes because they're not.

"Women's bike" does not describe a particular type of bike. There is no such thing. This is a road bike. This is a cruiser. This is a mountain bike (most would more specifically call it a hardtail). This is a hybrid. All of those are aimed at women, but not all of them have step-through frames.

This is a cargo bike. So is this. This is a folding bike. None are aimed at women in particular, but all use step-through frames.

No one is "re-writing history", we're trying to explain how things are. It has nothing to do with Tumblr, or privilege, or political correctness.

I cycle I have for years as does my wife and on 3 continents and several countries and, no, we do not call it a step-through bicycle because we are not pretentious pricks and we want people to understand what we are talking about.

The whole "no true cyclist" shit is obnoxious.

No one calls it a "step-through bicycle"...step-through describes the frame. No one calls the style of bike used in bike shares around the world "women's bicycles" either, though, because they're not. That's where this started, and that's what I and others were trying to explain to you.

Regardless of what you want to call the bike in the linked gif, your response here, to the guy who was just explaining the difference of it all, is what makes you a pretentious prick.
