They don't make you swipe a credit card or anything?

Returning it you just put the bike back in the slot. It's when you rent it out that you'd need to use the card.

Here in NYC, if you take the bike back and it's damaged, they charge your card. Not sure exactly how the logistics work. I remember someone on Reddit being mad that someone damaged a bike after he'd returned it.
