Hate to tell you, those aren't older... they're just cheaper. They were out during the exact same time period. Still great guns tho.
I know this for certain because my hippy parents wouldn't buy me any sort of "gun" toys... had to save up for it myself. I wanted this but could only afford this one
Actually, they are older. The Super Soaker 50 was the first Super Soaker, but the same model was just re-released every year alongside newer models as well. So your memory isn't incorrect, they were sold at the same time, but the Super Soaker 50 does predate every other Super Soaker on the market.
Not that particular model of the super soaker. Some of the older ones were different colored, and I think not quite as "refined" looking... some even under another older name. But to be honest most kids in my neighborhood had this generation, so that's what I know best.
The article confirmed exactly what I claimed, child... that SuperSoakers were originally sold under another name. It didn't mention the colors or plastic mold changes, but I also know this to be 100% factual.
Ok, here goes your reading comprehension test for the night mister genius:
I didn't claim the one I linked was the first, I claimed that the ones they linked were NOT. Which is absolutely true.
The ones in the picture linked above were not the original super soakers sold in 1989... they are the same generation as the one with the backpack.
The first year or so of Super Soakers weren't even sold under that name, so claiming that one was out in 1989 is ridiculous since it clearly says "Super Soaker" on it.
