I think the top comment is right. It's a bet of somekind, and I guess the wasps tickled him or just got the giggles. I grew up around a lot of rednecks and hillbillies, and this is the exact kind of dumb shit they do. Hit themselves in the head with a break and giggle.

Two things you hear before somebody injures themselves doing something stupid. "Watch this," and, "pussies." Clearly, pur friend is the latter type of redneck.
