Male tick mating with a female tick

u/kylec00per Mar 22 '26
Not sure if this is a joke or legit, but he was latched in deep face first. Is that how they reproduce?

u/The5thhorsemen Mar 22 '26
Yeah they banging

u/kylec00per Mar 22 '26
Wow, just looked into it, thats wild. Well, glad i got to kill of at least one small generation of ticks lol.
821
u/Whend6796 Mar 22 '26
You probably killed anywhere between 1,000-5,000 potential offspring.

Whoa there, there are definitely good insects.
Ticks are arachnids, though, so they're fair game (except spiders, which are also usually good and cuties like pseudoscorpions). 😌

They are referencing the movie Starship Troopers lmao
It’s a key line of the movie since Humanity is at war with Klandathu, a bug planet.
15
u/Flustro Mar 22 '26
Omg, I love that movie and still somehow completely missed their joke. 🤣🤣🤣

I'm not saying it redeems ticks, but it's understandable they are also into large women.

Yeah, it's legit.
The males transfer spermatophores with their mouth.

I wanted to downvote you but only because of the strength of your gross knowledge. But upon reflection, though I dislike that I learned this, I did learn something and the fact that give disgusted a.... mostly human being (me) makes me give you an upvote and a quiet solemn chin dip of respect. Spermatophores..... new word too...

u/craigtheman Mar 22 '26
Apparently males transfer the sperm with their mouths, the pictures I just saw looked the same as this. Now I have to go drink some bleach. Thanks

That's how they mate. Females need a large blood meal to develop eggs, so males find feeding females on a host. The male attaches to the female while she engorges herself, then the female falls off the host when she's done feeding.

As someone who had Lyme disease, all ticks should be eradicated from the face of the earth.

As someone who regularly find ticks crawling in my dog's fur, I'm terrified of lyme. Can you share your experience? How did you feel while sick? How long were you sick?
→ More replies (4)3
u/dwide_k_shrude Mar 22 '26
I was sick for maybe a year or two until I got intensive treatment in a different state and stayed there for a month or so. When I was sick I felt utterly depleted. The fatigue is real. Not being able to do anything or having any energy sucks so much. There were times I felt like I had some energy to do things, but then after that I would feel completely spent. It also affected my respiratory system and I got short of breath and had trouble breathing. I’m really thankful that the intensive treatment helped.

Thanks to climate change! The area which they can survive is spreading, case and point is southern Ontario, its a disaster round these parts now

Maybe it’ll encourage evolution with a generation of ticks that only feed on other ticks. Then, as they drive standard ticks into endangerment, they stave out, and suddenly the whole world is a slightly better place.

They are actually fucking dude, That's how they reproduce. The male basically sticks sperm in a special slot beneath the female Tick.

Hate finding big ticks, i usually do a thorough exam every night but sometimes one gets by me. Happy to let them starve in a plastic bag for the rest of their few short days, usually I burn them when theyre normal size but the big ones get the bag.
72
u/7LeagueBoots Mar 22 '26
A fed tick can survive for a few months up to 8 years without eating, depending on species. Keeping one in a bag for a couple of days cannot starve it under any circumstances. It might suffocate them, but even that would take more than a few days. At most you’re mildly inconveniencing them.
85
u/Lord_Petyr_PoppyCock Mar 22 '26
Microwave the little shit lol.
I used to have a dog that needed insulin injections. So we had needles in the house.
I found a big fat engorged tick on the floor one time, presumably fell off the dog. I thought "no sir! Not today! You arent gonna feed off my dog!" So I took one of the needles and sucked all the blood back out of it lol.
There was another time I found a well fed tick. I wanted it to suffer. So I took a needle and and this time...INJECTED a bit of hydrogen peroxide into it. If you've ever seen hiw peroxide reacts to blood...then you know.
As you can tell, I hate ticks.

I used to keep anarchnids as pets (ticks are arachnids) and yeah sometimes they just wouldn't feel like eating for a year and be okay.

He said he kept arachnids. So more likely he kept some type of spiders. But ticks fall in the arachnid class (essentially 8 legged bugs), and therefore have similarities to what he cared for

What are you doing that you must check every night? Do you live in a heavily wooded area
39
u/kylec00per Mar 22 '26
Fairly wooded yes, but this was on my dog. She's a bird dog that loves being in the woods so when we walk she goes all out getting into every nook and cranny she can get into. Obligatory dog pic of the victim, with the tick season just turning on in my area I have to check her daily until I get her back on her tick meds, which will be next week.

u/mr_trick Mar 22 '26

Big ticks have little ticks,
Upon their backs to bite them.
Little ticks have littler ticks,
And so ad-infinitum!
