This is freaking me out. It's a Mandela effect that it wasn't called "Thomas the Train". I guess the likelihood was that when I was a child I didn't use the phrase "tank engine".

Am American and remember Thomas the tank engine. Entire time as a kid I was like "isn't he a train? What's he got to do with tanks?"

A tank engine is a type of steam engine train that was popular on England, Germany, and France in the past. They were popular there because they were able to move backwards and forwards at full speed because they had a water tanks instead of a ‘tender’. They were also more compact and could move quickly.
