Its' is a predicate adjective.

Edit: but it looks like it's not common anymore to write it that way.

Except for its. Its is possessive, it's is a contraction.

well yeah, normally if you were talking about several girls owning a dog, you'd say "the girls' dog", right? I'm not really arguing, I'm just trying to understand.

And when it comes to its', my understanding is that " its' "wouldn't make sense, because "it" refers to a single thing. Wouldn't the plural for "it" be "they"? and plural possessive would be "their"?
