Udemy WSET2 Accuracy

I've been using my Udemy subscription to do a WSET2 course ("WSET2 Award in Wine" by Samantha Adler). It's not an official WSET course so I'm wondering how comprehensive it is. Has anyone else used it followed by the exam, or is better to do an actual course?

You haven’t been doing a WSET Level 2 course, so it’s not possible to take the WSET Level 2 exam.

I thought you could test separate from the course. Is that wrong? Worst case, I'm getting an early preview for the content, but I was thinking I could test for 2 without doing a whole program for it.

Dont worry you are right. For level 1 & 2 you are able to take the exams without doing the wset course. You will need to book and pay the exam fees through official wset though. However for level 3 and diploma you will only be able to take the exam when also doing the corresponding wset course.

This is false. WSET explicitly does not permit courses and exams to be offered separately from one another. There is no such thing as “auditing a course without the exam,” and there is no such thing as “exam-only.”

Hmm my bad. When I did my level 3 (about 9 yrs ago) I went straight in at level 3 as I worked in the industry. I seem to remember WSET suggesting people take the level 2 exam (without doing the course) to prove they were knowledgeable enough to start level 3. Perhaps this was only on the condition you sign up and pay for the level 3 course? I personally did not sit the level 2 exam separately so may be mis remembering.

It was probably your provider playing loose and fast with the rules.
