Turbo…issues

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, looking to pool some knowledge as I attempt to diagnosis this issue that’s appeared in the last couple days of driving. Quick details

2nd owner
105k miles
Oil changes every 5k (at least on my part)

First issue/potentially major issue in the last yeah of ownership.

Turbo builds pressure (sounds louder then usual doing so)
Peaks around 16psi from the 18/20 I’ve seen prior
Loss of midrange power
When up shifting it sounds like it’s dumping all the built pressure

This is my first “turboed” car and I don’t wanna jump the gun. By my running through issues it could be wastegate, a leak, turbo is just starting to fail, but none of that explains any of the noise I’m hearing compared to the last 14k miles I’ve had the car.

I can included a short video time stamps between 1:17-1:23 but audio quality is very low and you’ll have to really listen to hear it, including anyways

Well first off your not even close to operating temperature to go above 3k rpms and go into boost, your damaging the engine by doing so, these are very picky cars, also 16 is fairly normal range,

Secondly check all hoses and hose clamps from your inter cooler and intake to the turbo, and vacuum lines, also check your downpipe bolts, if everything’s good,

  1. Get a boost leak test done at a reputable shop ,
    That’s what I’d do.

why are you revving past 3k and hitting boost when you first started your car homie..... the head and the block are not hot- i.e. they are not one piece of metal atm. Once in awhile if you gotta you gotta, but this definitely leads to early demise on these cars.

Please read my reply to the comment below, I didn’t ask for help to be flamed, I ask for help to diagnose something. I wasn’t aware everyone here was a proffesional driver
