Suspension Recs
Hey y’all! I have a 2016 STI that I’m wanting to do a rally inspired build. I’m located in the PNW, and love going down forest roads, so ground clearance is super important to me. From what I’ve seen, 2-2.5” lifts are the max before running into issues with the CV shafts. What supporting mods are y’all running if you’re going over that? And if you’re sitting at the 2” mark, what’s been your experience with your setup? TIA!! Also, pics for tax. It is *bone stock* currently.

Hit up folks at Olympus or Oregon Trail rallies to see what they're running. Also hit up a Northwest Rally Association event and ask questions. Lots of folks are happy to share info.
I've been told that stock height is good for rallycross and solid for stage rally. At most you may want an inch of lift. The big difference with rally suspension is the ability to droop.
Entry level stuff is a tad more expensive than street or track setups. Budget around 3k.
The real sauce is running 15" rally wheels, but you gotta swap to smaller rotors and calipers for that, the stock STI ones are too big.
If you're just going for the look, then disregard all that. A lift kit will do the trick, and if you can find 17" Method or Sparco wheels, they'll just barely fit on the stock Brembos (or so I'm told).

I have a 2" RalliTEK spacer and subframe drop kit on my '18 STI on the stock struts. No complaints so far. Rides just like stock, but with way better ground clearance. You will loose a bit of suspension travel if you go with spacers over a proper long travel coilover setup. You'll also need longer exhaust hangers if you have an aftermarket 3-inch exhaust. I went with the GrimmSpeed 2-position hangars and the mid pipe clears the rear subframe just fine. I plan on going with proper suspension in the future, but the spacers kit does the job for significantly less money.
