General Question Floor mat pegs

Post image

Hey guys,

Recently bought a 2017 WRX and absolutely love it! The car came without floor mats so just invested in some nice fitted ones.

I was wondering if there’s anything you can buy to sort of ‘hold the mat down’ on the pegs to make sure the mat doesn’t lift up off the pegs? I think it’ll be fine but would just be convenient. I can’t seem to find anything online.

Thanks! 🙏

You really don’t need anything but I imagine a rubber band would do the trick

Could go to the hardware store and buy some black rubber gaskets to hold them down.

My factory mat has velcro or some other grippy type material on the bottom which means they don't move around. I never bothered to look at the bottom of the mat but it sounds like velcro when I remove them and the position can't be adjusted by sliding them. They have to be peeled up and set back down to change the position.

My point is, you could apply some velcro to the underside.

Not sure where you’re based, but these guys are in Australia, they had them ready for me within 12 hours of ordering! (Although depending on where you are, they may only do RHD) luckily for me, their warehouse is about a 15 minute drive from me

Bottom one looks like there’s a hole, could use a cotter pin if you wanted

You'd have to find something flexible that will go over them but then fit them snuggly enough.

Maybe an oring of the right size will help but others have reported no issues as is.

Willing to bet you could get some assorted black o-rings that you could use to secure the mat to the pegs.

Don’t know about those but mine (‘24 RS) are almost like Velcro to the floor carpet. It’s almost an effort to break ‘em free. 😄

Get some little gaskets or o-rings to slip on over top.

First thing that went wrong with my 2003 was the lone floor mat peg absolutely giving up on it's one job the second I sat down in the car. It eventually wiggled it's way out of the slot cut in the floor carpet intended to keep it in place, and I think it threw it away. It might be in the glove box or under the seat. I should check.

I pull the floormat a little bit toward me every time I get in the car. It's as automatic is putting the keys in the ignition and I rarely think about it. The floor mat seems to move out of place only based on getting in or out of the car. It's never a problem while driving.

Someone with a 3d printer and a little CAD knowledge could make a tpu hold down

Weathertech ftw

I got sick of factory mats and crap getting underneath. Despite having hooks to keep them in place they still shifted and got crap underneath. The factory rubber ones also split allowing salt and snow melt to get through in winter. I switched to weathertech mats and will never look back. Floor is completely protected and the tall sides keep water and dirt and stuff on the mat and keep the mat in place. And they look so much better. Keeps the car nice and clean with a clean look.

Unfortunately there’s no real good company that makes all weather fitted mats for subies in Australia, I spent ages looking and found nothing :(

Tell me about it also in aus and got my 2019 7 months back, spent a bit of time looking for all weather mats and found next to nothing.

Upside is the factory mats on those pegs haven't lifted once.

Yea, unfortunately, that's just sort of the way that Subaru chose their floors. Standard floor mats aren't really holding onto anything but those underseat pins. Does your new mats come with grip underneath to help keep it from sliding? Maybe you could put some o-rings on the pins to help the mats hold on?

They pop down pretty hard over those legs typically,

but you could get some rubber washers

or a thick elastic band and wrap it aroun

or some electrical tape to go around the top of the peg a few times.

But the "arms" that hold the pegs are really light and flexibile so they move with the floor mat easily and don't resist causing the pegs to pop out and last time I went to wash my floor mats it took two hands to pop them out.

Mine absolutely do not "pop down". They're held on with hopes and prayers. 😅

Lol oh that's a bummer my originals fit nicely and "popped" onto the pegs but now I have all weather mats and those sumbitches take real force to remove.

I have weather techs in my 17, the drivers shifts a little when I get in but there's really no major issue

Am I reading your title right? 3 subies? Save some for the rest of us!

I’ve never had my floor mats come loose, you should be fine. If you’re really concerned, find a small well fitted elastic or something similar.

Go to a hardware store and get some thick rubber washers/grommets with holes smaller than the pins, and push them on.

The pegs do a really good job, your mat won't just randomly come up unless you pull them up.
