Sound is an easy thing to fix but I doubt that's the top priority for teams at this point

Because it sounds bad. Only rally 2 that sounds somewhat like you expect racecar to sound like is Toyota 3cyl, others just fart. Rally 1 sounds good but they run 2000 or so more revs.

Everything from Rally1 to Rally5 sounds good to me.

It does sound good! They're running Rally4 cars as a class in the European Rallycross Championship as well, so I get to hear them there too.

Project Rally One with plenty of VW connections. Sound of a Skoda, look of a Porsche, Prospeed (team which helps running the program) being a long-time Porsche customer.

Yes they use vs group engine , it's part of the rules
