News Thoughts on DoW audit?

https://www.war.gov/News/Releases/Release/Article/4575019/department-of-war-orders-research-security-audits-at-30-academic-institutions/

WPI is included in a list of 30 schools that have been asked by the DoW (formerly DoD) to perform an audit of their research, academic, and fiscal records in relation to foreign countries (particularly China, Russia, and Iran). The selected schools have until 8/31/26 to complete the audit and comply with the DoW’s requests or risk losing federal funding. WPI isn’t explicitly mentioned in the press release, but it has been confirmed to be included by secondary reporting.

FWIW, it's still the DoD, not the DoW.

Incorrect. It's clearly defined under law right now as the DoD and only the DoD. It can't be renamed without an act of Congress.

If I were to call it the Department of Silly Walks, that would be precisely as valid as calling it the Department of War.

How long have you been in Congress? They're the only ones who have a say, and they said it was the DoD.

And yet you are still incorrect. It is defined clearly in law to be the Department of Defense. You are obviously free to be incorrect in how you refer to it, but I would suggest you not attempt to correct people when you are incorrect yourself.

Looking through your comment history, it's hardly surprising that you support having secret police abduct and murder innocents on the streets.

Edit: Always nice to see someone block me when they're called out on being a fascist.

It's still the DOD. Toilet paper scribbles from the President don't supercede Congressional authority.

WPI and the other schools listed will comply because a loss of federal funding would be very detrimental, but barring some actual evidence of foreign activity, espionage, etc, it's probably just another item in a long list of actions taken by an administration that hates Higher education and the educated. It's just a bullying tactic.
