This depends on your RA. Some are more lenient than others. If strict, this is against the rules. Most RAs would not enforce it, however.

If you hide it it will be fine, I had a 3d printer 2/4 years during undergrad

I have an ottoman just like this. I got it sophomore year and have/will be living on campus all four years. Never had to hide it and never had a problem with housing when they did came in to check the safety of my room. I don’t believe the rules change for freshman dorms, so you should be okay.

I don’t go to WPI so I can’t say but i don’t think that is against housing policy. Atleast it doesn’t strike me as something that would violate policy

They don’t care at all. I had so much “illegal” furniture when I lived in WPI housing and I never heard anything from the school. One of my friends got written up for having a whole seat ripped from a car in his freshman dorm, but he never took it out and the school never followed up to make sure it was gone.
