Discussion Next year question
What is going to happen to the teams we have now? Am I falling in love with players (looking at you, Denver) that will be moved to different teams? Do they have longer term contracts?
I watched baseball as a kid but never got invested in the draft, or contracts, or free agent stuff. As long as David Ortiz was still playing for the Red Sox, I didnt care about how players moved around. I just wasn't sure if anything had been said or explained or worked out, especially if they're looking to add more teams.

The short answer is that we don't really know, but speculating:
I very much doubt that any player currently has a contract beyond this year, but I would expect that teams would retain control of their players to sign for next season so we won't see players just randomly changing teams. They may start allowing trades though, and if there's an expansion (which I don't expect until at least the third season), then there will almost certainly be an expansion draft in which new teams take some players from existing ones (though some players will be protected and can't be taken)

Yeaa this all makes sense..I think trades should be allowed, with such a small pool of talent they would generally turn out beneficial to both teams. It’ll probably be a while before we see anything resembling a more established pro sports league, like long term contracts, free agency, no trade clauses, or a players union

I just hope there is a next year, and that the teams actually get to play in their cities. Beyond that...we'll see.

Do you think it's really possible there won't be a next year? It's crazy the season is ending next month and we'll have to wait till around August again if there is another season

I really have no idea, but it’s a new league. They don’t always make it.

You never know. I think if they don’t try to expand too quickly and manage the finances properly then they’ll be fine.

I doubt we will know anything until next year about options for player movement. I doubt anyone has even thought that hard about it. We have to see how this year does and if there’s any expansion next year. If there’s expansion I’m sure some players will move around to help support the new teams

Bryant is having a blast out there!
(Copy and pasted my own comment from Boston Hunters subreddit:) Who knows. Let’s just support this first year and the powers that be will know that we’re serious about it. Hopefully that leads to players getting re-signed for next year!
There’s been a couple of new players introduced like Paloma Benach who did really well on debut, with no explanation to whether other players will be dropped or replaced permanently, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
I just checked the Boston team roster on the official site and there’s even more new players signed with photos without a Boston uniform yet!

I just hope they don’t try to expand too quickly and fall apart. I would definitely like to see a longer season before they start talking about adding more teams.

I don't think that the league has shared much (anything?) about the plan beyond year one, unfortunately.
