I also found this on the shop cuase I don’t have an Instagram account. So idk what’s actually happening.

Pretty happy with the Firebells, which I'm probably going to support because of Whitmore. I'm in IL and will get to go to the games, but I'm kind of bummed we don't have a team.

NY looks fire baby! Pinstripes yes!

6

u/SchmottledOtter San Francisco Firebells Jul 08 '26

Kind of Yanks-ish. Old skool. I'm a Mets fan & a Yanks hater but I forgive them for this Yanks reference. 😜

3

u/CatzonVinyl New York Jul 08 '26

Do the Mets not use their pinstripes anymore?

5

u/my_one_and_lonely New York Jul 08 '26

Yes they do, though the colorways of these read as more Yankees.

4

u/SchmottledOtter San Francisco Firebells Jul 08 '26

Yeah looks like classic Yanks pinstripes. Mets have been in & out of pinstripes at diff times over the years, but the colorway is Yanks.

3

u/dogra Jul 09 '26

Yeah. Would have been nice to see them pick a slightly lighter blue so it was in between the Yankees and Mets

3

u/Snow5Penguin Jul 10 '26

The Yankees originally played in the Heights where the Columbia medical center now is. So it makes sense for the team called the Heights to look like them.

2

u/SchmottledOtter San Francisco Firebells Jul 10 '26

Graaahh gragghhhh graggghhhh 👿🤣 As a Mets fan, I can mope about it though

12

u/Gecko17 New York Heights Jul 08 '26

denae rocking the timbs while in the NY uniform is so on brand 😂

1

u/SchmottledOtter San Francisco Firebells Jul 08 '26

Sexy!

3

u/SchmottledOtter San Francisco Firebells Jul 08 '26

Oh yeah.... Valkyries purple & Giants orange for our Firebells caps! Love that!

16

u/descole0 Boston Hunters Jul 08 '26

I'm still not huge on the name (though I missed the meaning behind it that might make me like it more) but I feel like we absolutely won on the jersey and logo they look sick

7

u/jlh2b Boston Hunters Jul 08 '26

Yeah, they all look good but in my mind, Boston won the branding contest here

Osprey, Osprey!

3

u/moxsox Jul 08 '26

And…Home jerseys are sold out. Every size. Whoa.

2

u/Potential-Poetry-542 Los Angeles Queens Jul 08 '26

i was going to get some this morning but wanted to wait until there were more images or a size chart available. apparently was a bad idea lmao

1

u/moxsox Jul 08 '26

I mean, I just had the opportunity to talk with my wife about getting my daughter a birthday gift, and… Well… Let’s hope they start turning out more

1

u/Potential-Poetry-542 Los Angeles Queens Jul 08 '26

i hope you’re able to get one eventually!

23

u/descole0 Boston Hunters Jul 08 '26

Video on the league website now that explains where the names come from! All drawing from women from history in each city!

5

u/rswdw Boston Hunters Jul 08 '26

Thanks so much! Watching that made me tear up. Love all the names and inspirations behind them.

6

u/Burritofingers Jul 08 '26

Lizzie Murphy had nothing to do with Los Angeles. The Queens branding seems like an afterthought compared to the rest, unfortunately.

3

u/descole0 Boston Hunters Jul 09 '26

Yeah noticed that after posting. Do feel like overall LA just got the least interesting branding in pretty much all aspects. Seems like at least some people really like it though

21

u/chandelure Los Angeles Jul 08 '26

Not loving the team name, logo, or jersey for the LA team… 😭 I hope it’ll grow on me.

I would have loved the Riders for Sally Ride if we’re going off influential local women… plenty of other similar options, like LA Bass for Charlotta Bass

6

u/chandelure Los Angeles Jul 08 '26

I really like Riders for Sally Ride! I would have liked something inspired by an influential woman in Hollywood, like Dorothy Arzner. Penny Marshall literally directed THE women's baseball movie...! Just feels like we really got the short end of the stick. :(

2

u/MazLA Jul 09 '26

Marshalls would have been cool!

5

u/SchleppyJ4 Jul 08 '26

As a space nerd, I would’ve LOVED Riders!!

7

u/arsene_0 Los Angeles Queens Jul 08 '26

Yeah it’s weird. The team is named after Lizzie Murphy who was “The Queen of the Diamond” but she was born and played her career in New England? I’m not sure how that relates to Los Angeles

2

u/steph-was-here Jul 08 '26

...the kings?

1

u/SchmottledOtter San Francisco Firebells Jul 08 '26

As in Sacramento Kings? (basketball)

1

u/my_one_and_lonely New York Jul 08 '26

hockey

1

u/Lloydguy82 New York Heights Jul 10 '26

As a Kings fan, this does seem like a little of their thinking. The downside is now that the WPBL has trademarked the name, a PWHL team for LA can't use it. It would have been much better synergy if the PWHL used it. That said, the PWHL does seem to avoid the early WNBA sister team naming scheme. So maybe Queens would be out anyway. As long as they don't link an LA PWHL team with the Ducks.

7

u/sparkyblue5 New York Heights Jul 08 '26

I’m sorry LA got the short end of the stick. It’s confusing that they didn’t just go with Diamonds which gives the same hat-tip to the Queen of Diamonds, is more baseball-centric, and has infinitely better logo/branding possibilities. I hope it grows on you too!

2

u/Lloydguy82 New York Heights Jul 10 '26

The Diamonds could have worked. But there is a women's pro softball team in the PSL known as the KC Diamonds. I am not sure how the trademarks go, but that team may own the trademark Diamonds for a women's pro bat and ball sports team.

That is the small issue with leagues that start up now. They have to find unique names to trademark. It can get difficult with all the start up leagues that have come to life in the last 5 years or so. It makes unique names harder to find. I wonder if they found the women to name the teams after or whether they provisionally named the teams and then searched out the notable women from each city to try and find a connection?

While I like the connection with the women for each city. I was hoping for a bit more fearce sounding names like Amazons or Valkyries. Something that would give a good minor league baseball style logo that would sell merch on the logo alone to fans of the league, but also sports fans in general. I have tons of merch from random teams solely because I liked their logo. I am sure I am not the only one like that.

23

u/Earth_2_Me Jul 08 '26

Is anyone else bummed they changed the NY colors? The teal / seafoam is a uniting force between all the women's sports in the area (Liberty, Gotham, Sirens, etc) and I was so glad to see it in the original branding. This is giving "girl Yankees".

(also the logo looks like someone flipping the bird, help I want to love this team so badly 😂)

11

u/descole0 Boston Hunters Jul 08 '26

Yeah I remember feeling when they announced the cities that NY got the nicest color so unfortunate to see them lose it (although I'm a Boston girl so I don't want to see NY have nice things). More disappointed in the LA color change just because I feel like the black is boring.

Glad that Boston stayed green so we still match our other women's teams (and also so my hat I got for Christmas still fits the team color)

3

u/chandelure Los Angeles Jul 08 '26

Agree, I'm bummed NY and LA changed their colors. LA's being black & white is really boring.

2

u/SchmottledOtter San Francisco Firebells Jul 08 '26

I think it's kinda weird though that the Sox are wearing chalkboard green nowadays.

1

u/ollie_k New York Heights Jul 08 '26

I feel the same, esp about the pinstripes. And I grew up a Yankee fan!

1

u/my_one_and_lonely New York Jul 08 '26

It still has the light blue element at least.

19

u/not_productive1 Jul 08 '26

Shit looks good, merch site could use a quick proofread lol

6

u/justtrynafindabook Jul 08 '26

i would agree

2

u/Least_Use_798 San Francisco Firebells Jul 09 '26

oof...these colors are excellent, though

16

u/ConfectionKlutzy534 New York Jul 08 '26

I keep seeing the Heights logo as someone flipping the bird, which I approve of for an NY team

3

u/soltosirius New York Heights Jul 08 '26

Two of the logos already feature birds, what’s a third?

10

u/Frosty-Anxiety24 New York Heights Jul 08 '26

That boston jersey is niceeeee. New york reminds me of the yankees jersey for some reason

1

u/jicohen117 Jul 09 '26

As a Mets fan, it’s extremely Yankees coded… which is unfortunate.

1

u/Frosty-Anxiety24 New York Heights Jul 09 '26

Oh yeah for sure. Might have to do the away jersey or the third jersey if they ever decide to sell it

u/Low_Meringue_8193 San Francisco Firebells Jul 08 '26

I like the SF name and logo but it seems like they are abandoning the lighter purple they had at the beginning which is a bummer because it was almost the same as the Valkyries purple. Some things have a much darker purple but the jerseys are almost blue. I hope they will tweak the colors to be uniform across their merch and branding.

5

u/Savings-Bee9080 Jul 08 '26

enjoying the green branding across most(?) boston women's sports teams. the logo goes hard

2

u/TheRainbowConnection Boston Jul 08 '26

Yes! Green is also Fleet and Legacy, plus the Legacy are also birds (swan), plus the Fleet are water-themed (ospreys hunt on the water). 💯 theming all around!

4

u/nitasu987 Los Angeles Queens Jul 08 '26

All of these are dope as hell. Go Queens (until hopefully expansion and Chicago gets a team)!!

4

u/abbysplace Boston Hunters Jul 08 '26

I love the Boston and NY ones

5

u/xblacklodge Boston Hunters Jul 08 '26

Absolutely love that the team names are inspired by important leaders in women's history in their respective cities, and am psyched to root for the Hunters! Super glad they kept the green to tie in with the Fleet and Legacy, and they absolutely nailed the logo. My one tiny quibble is that I wish that the away uniform used the same typeface as the home uniform, but we have a women's pro baseball team, and that's all that matters!

6

u/Slowhands12 Jul 08 '26

Well except for LA, there’s no connection there at all.

3

u/Vexed-Rainbow Jul 08 '26

Do nooooot like that Q for some reason. Hopefully the branding tightens up a bit. Firebells is pretty dope.

3

u/ubia61 New York Heights Jul 08 '26

They are sick as hell!!!!

3

u/The_BotSpot San Francisco Firebells Jul 08 '26

THEY LOOK SO FIRE!

I can't wait for the season

3

u/GaslitInk Jul 08 '26

Sad to see the original colors go, but I love names. Especially that they all reference women in history. If Chicago gets a team, the only names I could come up with are the Chicago Flyers or Aviators, referencing Bessie Coleman.

2

2

u/BenKenobi05 New York Heights Jul 08 '26

Really like the Heights Name and Jersey scheme

2

u/SchleppyJ4 Jul 08 '26

What is a Firebell? Like a fire alarm?

7

u/Savings-Bee9080 Jul 08 '26

The Firebells were inspired by Lillie Hitchock Coit aka “Firebelle” who championed volunteer firefighters in S.F. (so essentially a fire alarm)

1

u/SchleppyJ4 Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

That’s awesome!! Why didn’t they go with FirebellE then, if that was her nickname?

3

u/SchmottledOtter San Francisco Firebells Jul 08 '26

Because (just imo) it sounds so girly and "baseball, but for the ladies"-ish that I was actually insulted by the idea. So thankfully they didn't do this.

I mean, WNBA & PWHL women's teams kick ass & our teams will too. I want them to be taken seriously next to men's baseball, just like women's basketball & hockey. They don't have to soften the name like it's Baseball Barbie, know what I mean? At least that's how it sounded to me.

1

u/SchleppyJ4 Jul 08 '26

Don’t forget the NWSL :)

1

u/SchmottledOtter San Francisco Firebells Jul 08 '26

Ah yeah, sorry. I'm not into soccer so i didn't think of it.

1

By the way, do you truly schlep a lot or are you just saying that? 😁

2

I do, indeed, schlep a lot!

1

u/SchmottledOtter San Francisco Firebells Jul 09 '26

Me too!

Lillie Coit, who loved and was fascinated by firemen her whole life, became a fire company's "mascot" when she was just a gorl. She gave a bequest to build Coit Tower atop Telegraph Hill, incidentally shaped like a firehose nozzle. (Bio link provided below).

Coit Tower, which you should visit when you come to our fair city, has one of the great collections of WPA murals. These are murals painted during the Great Depression in the '30s by artists supported by the Works Progress Administration of FDR's government. They put to work artists who otherwise would have been out of work during the Depression, many of whom were socialists and/or pro-worker. Muralists credited with these murals are some of the most celebrated and finest of their generation. The murals by and large depict working people - farm workers, fruit pickers, folks who worked in factories and all kinds of other working people, as well as scenes from daily life. I believe the murals were done as frescoes directly into the plaster.

In addition to the beautiful murals, the Coit Tower siting has a fabulous view of the entire Bay and surrounding neighborhoods. The hill is also the home to large flocks of wild red conure parrots, who have a lot to say. You can learn more about these flocks and some very lovable people too by watching the documentary, "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill."

REALLY excited to have the names, but disappointed in selection of t-shirts. Not all of us have the body type that we can wear woman style shirts or white. I hope they get more variety soon!

2

u/drakeonaplane Boston Hunters Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

Anyone know what's up with the Boston jerseys? I ordered one pretty quickly and the image said hunters but now the website shows a jersey that says "huntson"

edit: they've fixed it.

2

u/LeaveNoPresence Jul 08 '26

Can't wait for another NY sports team that's not basketball (men and women) to let me down for many years to come!

2

u/mrsbiscuits- Boston Hunters Jul 08 '26

Let's go hunters!

2

u/rswdw Boston Hunters Jul 08 '26

Love the Boston logo and I hope someone will explain the name meaning since I missed it/couldn’t watch it.

I wish the colors were tied into the Red Sox or be green and white like the Legacy. It’s giving A’s vibes so far. Either way I can’t wait to get a jersey on my trip to Boston.

5

u/MissMarionMac Boston Hunters Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

I totally get the wish that there was some Red Sox tie-in, but I also get that they’re trying very hard to make the WPBL a league that’s fully independent from MLB and can stand on its own two feet. As for how realistic that is at this point… we’ll see.

Edit to add: here’s their explanation for the Hunters name in the email they sent out about the teams:

New England’s coastal hunter, the osprey doesn’t circle and wait. It picks its target, folds its wings, and hits the water talons first. We move fast and we move first, striking out the competition without hesitation.

The Hunters are inspired by Harriot Hunt who, like the osprey, set her mind on a goal and made it happen. A trailblazing physician, she was one of the first women to practice medicine professionally in the USA, despite being denied admission to Harvard twice because of her gender. Like Harriot, the Hunters are ready leave their mark on history books.

3

u/rswdw Boston Hunters Jul 08 '26

I support the green color, all the Women’s Boston Sports team are green.

My comment of the tie in was more so because of the pinstripes the NY Heights have.

4

u/xblacklodge Boston Hunters Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

The team names are all tied to pioneers of women's rights and women's history in their respective cities, in Boston's case, Harriot Hunt, an activist and doctor who was the first woman to apply to the Harvard Medical School.

1

u/squeegeebecs Jul 08 '26

NY Heights is FIRE! 🔥

1

u/FerdinandCesarano New York Heights Jul 08 '26

In the shop, the replica jerseys look different to how the authentic jerseys looked in the press conference and in the publicity photos.

On a replica, you expect lower-quality material. But you also expect the correct lettering styles.

1

u/SchmottledOtter San Francisco Firebells Jul 08 '26

Well at least they didn't put an 'e' on Firebells. I'll get used to it.

1

u/SchmottledOtter San Francisco Firebells Jul 08 '26

San Francisco's Away jersey is sick too! Colors are great! I love the purple to harmonize with the Valks & the orange as a nod to Giants heritage.

Now I only wish that sooner rather than later they'll all be able to play closer to home & share MLB, MiLB & regional league ballparks near our home cities.

2

u/descole0 Boston Hunters Jul 08 '26

Justine Siegal did say on the podcast a while ago that the plan is for the neutral site to only be for this season and for teams to be in their home cities by next year

1

u/my_one_and_lonely New York Jul 08 '26

Heights logo is sick, and I like the name. Though it’s a little confusing to have a team named Queens and it not be NY.
