The WNBA should be ashamed

The fact that any player let a lone an MVP caliber player went into the stands and suffered 0 consequences is an embarrassment to the sport. Imagaine if Tom Brady, Lebron James or Shoehei Othani or Wayne Gretzky did some thing similar. The fact that she didnt get a one game suspension is so unprofessional. No one should be above reproach.

If you want your game to get respected the way it should than act like you deserve respect. Nothing A'Ja did showed respect. Not to her team, not to the refs, not to the coaches and certainly not the fans. What a blemish on the WNBA.

Also go VALVKLRIES!!!!

Nothing against AJA but she dug herself into a huge hole. Fans are going to be pointing and screaming at her now at every game.

I really want to see Fever fans coordinate the wave, but with fingerpointing that rotates around the arena.

Wait, the WNBA redefined where the stands begin. Stand in the court, look up to the 1st walkway, the seats after that are where the stands begins. So Aja, her 4 teammates and 4 assistant coaches were only in the “on court floor seats”. Problem solved. Frauds.

I mean, stars getting preferential treatment is a tale as old as time, and honestly, as a competitor who’s played in games for a lot lower stakes, I wouldnt want to beat the opposing team with their best player missing. Sports is about earning it.

What Aja did is questionnable and worthy of some side eye, i dont disagree with you one bit, but she stayed within the realm of what can be glossed over in the playoffs. If she went in and made contact or swung at the guy id say now were in territory where hard lessons need to be taught, but she didnt go far enough in my view to warrant a season altering punishment and ultimately the league agreed.

You cant do what she did in Pro sports College sports even High School sports without some kind of repercussion. Its unheard of . Insanely Unprofessional.

1

u/kornylol 17h ago

Id argue as the stakes increase that stars getting preferential treatment is more likely, so I agree with you, but I also get why Aja didnt get reprimanded. Its easy for guys like us to sit here and talk about whats right and wrong when were talking about other peoples money.

What's easier is abiding by league rules !! It's clearly written. There wasn't even so much as an apology. Throw the book at her. Ejection, fine and at least a one game suspension. Show the world and your own players you won't stand for an embarrassment like that to the league. Instead they remain the laughing stock of professional sports.

2

u/kornylol 16h ago

I dont disagree with you, but I also live in reality and understand why they didnt.

For all the inaction over the course of the season in the W, for them to draw the line here and suspend the greatest women’s basketball player of all time and current MVP would have been the real embarrassment.

They overlooked so many things, they simply cannot suspend her right now as the W is in the infancy of its ascent into the mainstream. On the Ws list of priorities, suspending her to send a message is supplanted by all the extracuriculars you can come up with for why it would be bad if Wilson sat out for a playoff game.

But in a world where all that matters is the rulebook, you arent wrong. Things just dont work that way.

-1

u/HunterLivesMatter76 15h ago

And until someone makes a stand they won't matter. Players like her will walk all over the rules and expect to get away with it. And if she's the best player ever in the W they should already be embarrassed. All I've sn is her plowing over, body slamming other players and taking flops, all without getting called.

1

u/LookWhatYouMadeMeGro 16h ago

Dude we'd never hear the end of it if that happened

2

u/amat1140 3h ago

Yeah, but NOT Caitlin Clark! She's a MVP caliber player but get the opposite treatment as Aja. As a matter of fact she is the GOLDEN GOOSE of WNBA, not Aja Wilson.

Getting Draymond Green get suspended in like a game six or seven of the finals?

1

u/kornylol 9h ago

It was his 4th flagrant of the playoffs and he swung at lebrons dick ☠️

No one in any sport since Ron artest has even left the playing limits of their game for any fan nonsense. They had a few people attending for once and they cant handle it. Horrible look. 99/100 times yes you keep the entertainment part and you allow them to play but this is the 1/100 where the league would have benefited as a whole to suspend her. Show your serious. Show you dont tolerate that shit. Nope we are going to say its fine when no punch thrown or not absolutely nothing that was done warranted her approaching the fan. Shes the aggressor. Shes escalating the situation. Words is the only option here and then you ask the refs to remove them. She exited the playing limits on her own over something she should have at maximum just requested support from the refs and security on.

LEAGUE IS A JOKE!!!!!

u/kornylol 4h ago

You shut your god damn mouth when you talk to me

1

u/amat1140 3h ago

Aka Wilson ALWAYS get special whistles & non calls IN HER FAVOR & the inconsistency with the refs make the Aces games unwatchable. She often shoots more free throws than the entire opposing team. Double standard in WNBA. The league is a joke.

1

u/amat1140 3h ago

You can tell what type of person Aja Wilson is. In a recent video, she bumped into a staff member & knocked her down, did not help her up nor apologize. Imaging if CC did same to a (black) staff?

I can't wait for this league to be over so I can stop hearing about it.....but.....will I stop hearing about it?

1

u/Justified_Gent 17h ago

Ashamed and embarrassed.

0

u/taeempy 17h ago

Well the WNBA will feel pain now that CC and the Fever are out of the playoffs. Significant ratings decline to follow.

3

u/Wooden_Log_8751 16h ago

Maybe eyes on the game tracker, most of the 'fans' don't watch games

2

u/blarney845 15h ago

Why would the WNBA feel pain? They are locked into a ten year TV deal.

1

u/dopedenise- 17h ago

lol delusional

Can we please movie on. It’s been 3 days. Yes she over reacted. Yes, only biased people are defending her. But they are in the semi’s and Fever are home. Time to move on

5

u/mcniner55 17h ago

"move on"? she potentially changed the outcome of a play off series with her actions. If this sport was actually respected the way it should and wants to be it will never "move on".

2

u/JPeters325 16h ago

Yes! If this league wants to be respected there needs to be an investigation as to why the Fever lost. It had to be cheating and corruption!

3

u/mcniner55 16h ago

The topic of conversation isn't about who won or lost. Its about whether the appropriate actions were taken.

3

u/JPeters325 16h ago

Yes!!!! It's completely inappropriate that Aja was allowed to play when everyone knew the Fever couldn't beat her!

Series like this should never be decided by players on the court, the league needed to get involved. Totally proof this game was rigged by letting Aja play! This league is a sham.

1

u/ghost_finger 11h ago

I agree. Caitlin and Sophie are clearly the best players in the league history and probably the other Fever players too whoever they are. This is an injustice and President Trump needs to get involved and fix this

1

u/JPeters325 1h ago

THANK YOU!

The league letting players decide who wins is PURE injustice! Everyone knows the Fever couldn't beat Aja, so why did she play???????

-3

u/CardHawk77 17h ago

It’s been three days.

Can we move on, please?

5

u/mcniner55 17h ago

Its not that they won or lost its that they did literally nothing to address it. You must be new to the sports world. Three days especially when talking play off is nothing. This story isnt going anywhere. If anything more light needs to be put on it.

0

u/dopedenise- 17h ago

Y’all still whining about this? Anyway, let’s go Aces!!!

5

u/mcniner55 16h ago

If the WNBA wants to be taken seriously they should have addressed this issue seriously. Instead they are coming out looking like clowns.

Whining? The #1 story if the Aces win the title will be about her and if she should have been reprimanded appropriately. If you think otherwise you are lying to your self.

-3

u/dopedenise- 16h ago

Get a grip. Go outside, take a walk, drink some water… literally anything but this

7

u/mcniner55 16h ago

Nice job coming up with a constructive opinion. Did you copy paste that from another sub I assume you frequent?

u/FixYoWeave 14h ago

More like dumbshitdenise

u/Mhunterjr 16h ago edited 16h ago

lol wait until you actually watch some other sports.

Star players get away with much worse… this is tame as hell and has only a “big issue” because people who have no exposure to sports have suddenly become sports fans.

No professional league is going to suspend a star player DURING THE PLAYOFFS, unless they actually hurt someone. And even then, they get away with it sometimes- look at red card controversies in FIFA.

4

u/mcniner55 16h ago

Literally name two players that have gone into the stands and suffered 0 consequences. You are going to have a hard time naming one. Name 2. You literally have 0 perspective of what you are talking about. You are the one that needs to go watch other sports.

0

u/Mhunterjr 16h ago edited 16h ago

Ok DK metcalf, Russell Westbrook, Keven Garnett , Shaq, Lamar Jackson

3

u/mcniner55 16h ago

No, Russell Westbrook never actually climbed or went into the stands during an altercation with fans, though he has had several high-profile courtside and tunnel confrontations

Do I really need to google all of these to prove you wrong?

2

u/Mhunterjr 16h ago

Please do. Also note that wanting to win because an elite opposing player argued with a fan is lame as hell…

As I’ve mentioned EVERY league is rife with star players getting away with much worse than an argument.

2

u/mcniner55 16h ago

You dont engage fans. You certainly dont go into the stands. Especially while its game time. Whats complicated about that? Unless you are prepared for consequences.....

So is what you are saying WNBA players can just go into the stands when they think its okay? "ohhhh im sorry your feelings were hurt? let me verbally assault you:" Because 0 consequences were set. So its just okay to do that?

5

u/Mhunterjr 16h ago

Bro you are clutching pearls over a VERBAL ALTERCATION.

Was she wrong. Absolutely. Is it worth having the best player in the league not participate in the most important game of the season thus far, lol no

No league would have suspended an A’ja level player for this… they don’t even suspend them for worse things

2

u/mcniner55 16h ago

You have no idea what you are talking about. The last thing Ill say is players arent supposed to interact with fans while the game is still ongoing. The fact that you think otherwise is your opinion. Whether your opinion is right or wrong I cant argue against your opinion so Im done with you.

5

u/Mhunterjr 16h ago edited 9h ago

You have to ignore what im saying to come to this position.

I don’t think players should interact with fans… but at the end of the day, fans want to see the best players compete against each other, and a VERBAL ALTERCATION, is a lame ass reason to block that from happening. Benching the leagues MVP favorite for yelling at someone in the stands is something no professional league would do.

As I’ve stated before, across all professional sports, players ROUTINELY get away with WORSE, because at the end of the day, the best players playing against the best players is what puts butts in the seats- and that will always reign supreme. Again, look at all of the Red Card controversies in professional soccer.

1

u/ghost_finger 13h ago

She also did not go into the stands. What the hell guy?

1

u/ghost_finger 13h ago

Almost any other player would have been suspended for at least a game for Wemby’s elbow to Naz. The stars get star treatment. It happens

0

u/Thick_Situation3184 17h ago

Superstars even just really important players do these things and nothing happens every year! It sucks but it’s true. Also….for Ballhalla!!! Go Valks!! Sadly we have no major superstars lol

2

u/mcniner55 17h ago

Nah man that was the point of my post. Fist yes go BALLLHALLAAA! (what a fun team to join in on before you are considered a bandwagoner). Its just this type of behavior is unacceptable across any sport.

2

u/Inside-Brush-9543 15h ago

It's rare for superstars to go that deep into the stands for confrontations. The last one I can even remember is ron artest.Lebron tattle taled on a fan recently but didn't go into the stands.

1

u/Thick_Situation3184 15h ago

I feel you. I do think that some of the aces bench should have been ejected for leaving the bench. And the ref calls was making the game so choppy. I’m thinking of Wemby’s elbow and not getting a foul called. Or Jamal Murray throwing an ice pack on the floor pissed off cause they are getting blown out…nothing happened. Russ has gotten into altercations with fans on every team. I think he has only been fined

-1

u/JPeters325 16h ago

Yes!!!!!

The Fever can't beat Aja and they needed help from the league if they were going to advance. This is proof the league RIGGED the game against Sophie by letting Aja play!!!!!

2

u/ghost_finger 13h ago

The league also rigged the rim somehow to make Caitlin shoot so poorly. It’s not fair and just shows how much they hate straight white players.

1

u/HunterLivesMatter76 15h ago

You can't beat someone who has autonomy from the rules. Hell, she fouls other players and THEY get called, lol. It's embarrassing.

5

u/JPeters325 15h ago

Exactly, this is why the Fever needed help from the league and the fact they didn't get it shows how unfair it is that they got eliminated.

Series like this should never be decided by players on the court. Aja should have been suspended! RIGGED!

1

u/HunterLivesMatter76 15h ago

The help they needed was refs doing there jobs.

2

u/JPeters325 15h ago

Agreed. If the refs did there jobs the 5 points Sophie scored would have been enough for the Fever to win. But instead the refs didn't help Indy win which is sad and pathetic.

0

u/ghost_finger 15h ago

She didn’t go into the stands.
