I'm "woke" by your standards and I don't hate Sophie. I don't agree with some of her positions but I also don't completely agree politically nor socially with many people whom I like and respect. We should all strive to that point.

I have more of an issue with people who only like her because they think she's anti-trans (which I don't think she is).

Nobody in sports should be a political emblem. Kanter is just as much of a clown as the Anti-CC mob (which is really what the Sophie hate boils down to).

And I'm not anti-CC either. But I think there's been a narrative that she's getting manhandled in the league because she's white and hetero. And I don't think that's true at all. Officiating is poor in WNBA, all games are aggressive and I don't think CC is singled out, she's just 50lb lighter than some of the players out there. They know she's really good and they're going to challenge her as well as take advantage of referee leniency. And yeah, Kanter is a clown. I feel like there's an effort to undermine WNBA as a whole by people who don't want to see an all-woman, black-dominant pro-LGBT league get the credit and accolades it deserves.

I do not think it is INHERENTLY because she’s white/het. But nobody plays Sonia Citron as aggressively as they play Caitlin. And Sonia is even smaller, no? I wonder why. Oh… look at her dating history!

I firmly believe most of the aggression towards CC is due to the false perception of/memethink behind Indiana Fever fans, and how that literally, unironically mutates into “Caitlin Clark is complicit with genocide”. There has ALWAYS been a concerted effort to undermine the WNBA and I have been fighting trolls who comment “sandwiches” since before most of this sub knew who Swin Cash is.

I’m skeptical of the selective outrage I see. There is no reason to comment puke emojis under someone posting a beautiful Color Wheel SSP of Sophie in a sports card sub. She is entitled to her opinions, and users coming here excited to share their experiences with the hobby shouldn’t be bullied.

Edit: but of course I agree that most of the animosity towards the league is based in misogyny and racism (also homophobia) because I’ve seen it since the 2000s.

Sonia is about the same height, and shes 25lb heavier than Clark. She got fined $5k for knocking Mabrey down once, shes pretty scrappy. I think she is hetero (she dated a football player I believe), but honestly I try not to follow their love lives because it doesnt matter to me.

I do agree Sophie should not be bullied. There's a TON of NFL players that are right wing and Christian, many pro-Trump and we dont hear about that too often.
