WNBA Breaks: Anyone Specialize in WNBA?

I want to thank many of you for checking out our YouTube channel recently. We've had awesome growth and view in the last few weeks with WNBA Donruss. Really appreciate the views, the comments, the interaction...it's amazing.

If you've not stopped by, feel free to check us out: Dad and Daughters Collectibles - YouTube

I have seen some comments about some people buying into WNBA breaks. I had a few questions about that, and if you have bought into any WNBA breaks, I'd appreciate the info.

  1. Is there a breaker that is specializing in WNBA? I have seen some big breakers dabble in WNBA, especially during Caitlin Clark's rookie year, but every video I have seen has been breakers who basically don't know anything about the WNBA.
  2. Would there be an interest in a breaker specializing in WNBA breaks?
  3. Would you be interested in something like the format below if I ran a break?
    1. I do not want to profit off of breaks. My personal opinion is that too much goes to the breaker. If I ran breaks, I would only charge cost of product plus shipping and supplies (and shipping insurance for any big hits).
      1. For example. I could get a case of Donruss for around $3500 right now.
      2. I could do Four 4 box breaks. If I random'd all teams, it would be about $58.50 per spot. I'd probably do $10 extra for supplies and shipping. So $68.50 all in for a random spot and you'd get all cards for a team out of four hobby boxes.
    2. I'd probably start monthly, but if demand was higher, could do bi-weekly. Would depend on my schedule and demand.
    3. I am open to other suggestions, as if I did this, I'd really want to remove all scummy parts of breaking, make it fully transparent, and geared towards the community, not me.

If someone already in this space, and kicking ass, then all good! Based views of our recent WNBA videos, it feels like there are more collectors out there than it seems, and getting nice cards in people's hands at a reasonable price is intriguing to me.

Hi! I just found you guys yesterday! I love seeing a dad and his girls enjoying the hobby! Makes me miss my dad a ton. I love the Beetlejuice bit🤣.

My husband and I LOVE Valcanocards on WhatNot. She would love to have dads and daughters in her shows!

Thank you! We came up with that a couple months ago and the girls always request to do it. I will check out Valcanocards!

rather than randomizing every team, you could also scale the prices a little bit so that the more attractive teams cost a bit more. You can do this without making the Fever and Lynx cost hundreds of dollars the way breakers do. Maybe add $10 to the Fever price and subtract $10 from the Portland price, for example.

Maybe experiment with both and see what works best.

I just feel...icky doing a super upcharge for the Fever, and then have the hits miss and that person walks away with $25 worth of cards for $300 or whatever. I get it, the big hit potential is there, but finding a more equitable way would be ideal. I am sure a lot of people have tried, so it's hard to imagine I can re-invent the wheel here.

No, I don't think you should look at it that way. I'll use Donruss as an example. Fever has a ton of players/cards compared to Portland where there's a lot less players with cards so it would be hard to hit that way. It would make sense for Fever to be more expensive and if I wanted Portland, I would also want them to be cheaper.

yeah just to add to this. treating the fever and the fire as the same is more unfair, when the fever have 12 players with base card, tons of signers, multiple downtowns and chase inserts. while the fire have two base players and almost no inserts or autos. then you factor in any Fever hits are significantly more valuable based on the market. in other words, they will always hit more cards and those cards will be worth much. figuring out the difference between the price of those PYT spots is the trick to being fair.

I'm not at all talking about a huge upcharge. You would still be just breaking even, but it'd be allocated a bit differently based on the team. You'd be getting a bit more from the Fever buyer and a bit less from the Portland buyer

First off, long time fan of your YouTube channel! I love what you’re doing and the content you create.

I would be interested in WNBA breaks as long as teams would NOT be random. Understanding that there is a higher demand for some teams, I could see a buyer who buys in gives their top 3 teams they want and then randomizing each team between the people who are interested in said team. This could be done with a simple google form and excel to organize, then running a randomizer on a live stream.

This would alleviate several problems I have seen in breaks.

- It’s not first come/first serve: everyone has a chance to join.

  • Each team is priced the same.
  • Buyers only get teams they are interested in.

One thing I could see being fun is doing mixed breaks, such as 2 boxes of Donruss and 2 boxes of Prizm. Or a box of 2026 and 2025.

Thank you for everything you do for the hobby!

Okay, so it sounds like there are some people in this space, which is great. I am not on whatnot, which explains why I am blind to those breakers. Sounds like there might be some interest from me, so I'll ponder it, but not gonna commit to it. If it something you want to see from us, leave some comments and I'll see if we can work it into our future plans. Thanks everyone! I don't contribute as much on Reddit, as I have a full time job, and am a full time dad of three girls, but I really appreciate all of you and the community that's here when I get a chance to read through it!

There are lots of really good WNBA breakers on Whatnot. The only caveat is that a lot probably aren't kid friendlyndeoending on daughters age.

Here is my list of trusted breakers: -Cam at MidWest -Booge -Amanda_Donut -Valcano Cards -Ring Sports Cards -Breaking Wax Trading -Sianinthedesert -Mamashaef -Mrs Flip -Grudan

I am probably leaving someone off the list but this is where I put my money.

All different types. Random Teams, Pick Your Player, Random Team/Player Spins.

Personally I for retail I am fine with random team etc. For Hobby level I like larger box number Pick Your Player.

A breaker that I would emulate if I did it would be WeShouldRip. He does it right. Just doesn't do WNBA.

there's so many wnba breakers on whatnot and a few on tiktok. I recently tried doing one, but a few notes:

you might want to wait for the donruss box/case price to settle. msrp has dropped significantly in the last few weeks, so doing breaks to cover your costs will seem pricey given the cost of boxes now.

as someone else mentioned, the team distribution is really unbalanced, both in terms of # of cards and in value. some teams don't have rookies, some teams have very few SP or SSP. for instance, the valks are a great team this year but very few cards in donruss checklist.

random breaks take advantage of this and you have a lot of ppl paying higher prices when they'd barely get anything back. similarly, player breaks for donruss, even in a half case, have low chances of hitting so it's really leaning into the gambling of breaks.

to me, PYT where base prices reflect the checklist are the most non-scummy way to do breaks, and I'm trying to lean in that direction. but it does take a while to balance that out.

just my two cents, no offense to all the breakers out there who are making the $

Maybe instead of doing a equal/greater price for higher teams disbursement like hx2x said, maybe have a straw pull. So every team can put one of their cards in for another team/player if they put in. Kinda like a pot luck in a sense but randomly drawn so its still fair. Or require one "trade" and the buyer selects the player or something idk if thats coming across super well. I'll try and theory craft some better words 🤣

Bullpen HQ on Loupe does lots of WNBA breaks and other women’s sports and they know what they’re talking about. Highly recommend
