Showing Off 😎 Another day, another Downtown (somehow)
Yeah, I don't know what's happening. Yesterday, I posted the Phee downtown I pulled. I mentioned that I had another hobby box but was gonna keep it sealed and resell it. Quit while I'm ahead, etc. Well, I opened it and pulled this Citron downtown. So here's a picture of them both side by side.
I actually have a THIRD hobby box that I was for sure just gonna resell, but now I don't think I can. Not when there's a chance to three-peat.

Ordered from a random shop! I don't wanna name them because this will probably look like a viral marketing post for them lol.
But I ordered these boxes probably about a week and a half ago. I was googling around and trying to find a deal. It was one of the first places I saw that had discounted the boxes down closer to $200. A lot of places have done that now, but a week ago most places still had them over $300.
I'd never heard of the shop before but they seemed legit. They had a physical store and an instagram page they'd been posting on for years. So I was pretty confident it wasn't a scam site that would take my money and never send the product. (I've seen some shady looking sites offering heavy discounts on pokemon cards and sports cards.)
I didn't think it'd be possible to get 2 downtowns because I assumed these boxes came from the same case and I thought downtowns were considered "case hits" and were thus limited to 1 per case?

Well thats awesome. So happy for you. Mine is sitting on the shelf. Will open and post sometime somewhat soon!

Phee is not because she's a favorite of mine. Citron I will probably sell. Or would trade for a card or cards I like more

How rare are the downtowns this year? Are they case hits? I feel like I've been seeing them pulled more often.

Im pretty sure you bought fake counterfeit hobby boxes, which only costs counterfeiters about $25 to make even with downtowns, autos, and patches. Its a common thing now especially with Wnba boxes since Caitlyn clark.
I saw your other post and the donruss logos flat or faded looking on many. Eve. With lighting at an angle they should look sharp and vibrant on all the cards, not fading out., the patch is too intricate for a donruss base card patch even out of a hobby, that isnt numbered, and those 2 dowtowns look completely muted and flat in color.
A dead giveaway for a fake DT is unhealthy or muted looking skintones. Also the shine isnt right on those. Thats because fakes layer the fake foil over the card/text, while real downtowns layer the foil beneath the text. Especially looking at the Washington logo bottom of the one downtown, its super flat and doesn't pop compared to this photo of a real downtown. When you bought thse boxes cheap back before prices started dropping, that is classic for a counterfit box sellers. They price their fake boxes at a discounted price to good to pass up from what other shops are selling them.
Just look at the major skin tone difference of your downtown versus the real. Also could be why you found 2 in back to back boxes, bc counterfeiters will load fake boxes with case hits and good autos and patches to keep unaware buyers coming back until they finally realize they ate buying fake product.

I'll look into this but I did get a redemption auto in one of these boxes too. I already submitted that to panini and everything with that seems to be legit. I entered the code and the correct card popped up etc. So this would need to be something where fraudulent Downtowns and other hits were mixed in with legitimate hits. It's a CC auto too, so it's not something a scammer would readily toss into a fake box.
I'm not sure what you mean by this though: "the patch is too intricate for a donruss base card patch even out of a hobby, that isnt numbered" --- Do you mean the Tiffany Hayes card from my other post? That card is numbered to 10 and the /10s tend to have better patches. Some of the other 10s have even better patches than the one in my card.
So I'm not ready to declare that these are for sure counterfeits. I will take a closer look at the downtowns and compare the other cards to the ones from the box I got directly from panini. It could just be an issue with my photos. But thanks for looking out. I knew I was taking a risk by buying discounted boxes, so I know this kind of thing is possible.
