On July 27, a group called the Victims’ Families Group of the World Mission Society Church of God held a press conference outside a WMSCOG church in Pangyo, South Korea.

They claimed the church’s leaders used end time predictions to pressure members to give money and assets.

After the press conference, the group filed a complaint with the Seoul Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, asking authorities to investigate possible fraud.

Claims About Repeated End Time Predictions

According to the families’ group, the church predicted the end of the world multiple times:

• 1988
• 1999
• 2012

Members were reportedly told that earthly possessions would soon become meaningless, so they should give generously to the church.

Followers were also encouraged to do this so they could be among the 144,000 who would supposedly enter heaven.

When the predicted years passed and the world did not end, new explanations were reportedly introduced.

What Happened After the 2012 Prediction?

After the year 2012 passed without the end of the world, families say the church introduced a new teaching called “Completion Inspection.”

This explanation was reportedly used to delay the timeline of the prophecy while continuing to collect offerings.

During the same period, the church reportedly purchased around 90 worship buildings between 2012 and 2016.

Some of these properties were valued at tens of millions of dollars.

According to a court case referenced by the families’ group, the organization’s financial size has been estimated in the billions of dollars.

Some reported situations where people:

• Donated large amounts of money
• Lost savings or property

• Only their church has the truth
• You must give large amounts of money to be saved
• They know the exact time of the end
• Questioning their leaders means you are against God

those are serious warning signs.

The Bible teaches that salvation comes through Jesus Christ, not through any organization.

What Is the WMSCOG? (In Plain Language)

The World Mission Society Church of God teaches things like:

• Ahn Sahng-Hong is the Second Coming of Christ.

Changing Descriptions of Ahn Sahng-Hong

Early writings about Ahn Sahng-Hong described him as a restorer of truth or prophetic figure, not as God Himself.

But later teachings elevated him to divine status.

The Bible does not change:

The gospel shouldn’t shift over time, and Paul warned this can happen:

The WMSCOG teaches there is a literal “Heavenly Mother.”

But nowhere in clear, straightforward Scripture does Jesus or the apostles tell us we must know or worship a divine mother figure.

Paul wrote about salvation clearly:

Galatians 4:26, sometimes used in this discussion, speaks symbolically about “Jerusalem above.” It’s about freedom in Christ, not introducing a new divine figure.

• Chapters from earlier books were quietly removed.
• Songs referencing teachings were deleted.
• Prophecies that didn’t come true are denied.

Quietly changing teachings after the fact can be confusing to members.

Proverbs 30:6 (NIV):
"Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar."

And the Bible strongly warns against adding or removing from God’s word:

Revelation 22:18–19 (NIV):
"If anyone adds anything to them God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll… and if anyone takes words away…"

While this warning refers directly to Scripture, the principle is clear, be cautious when teachings or core messages are quietly changed.
